DD1 and hypermobility

DD1 (16) has hypermobility and until 6 months ago we'd had 5 years with no problems at all. We had a year when she was 10-11 years old when she was always bandaged up in some way or another and it's started happening again.

The latest incident happened 6 weeks ago when she turned over on her ankle. She was away on a teenage camp event so they took her to hospital and an xray showed some ligament damage. She was told to walk on it but it was too painful so she's been using crutches. A couple of weeks ago she was concerned about the pain not getting any better but the GP just said it would take a while.

She hobbles about in the house and tries to put weight on the ankle but it's just too painful and it seems to be getting worse. She wants me to do something but I don't know what to do. Should I take back to the hospital? To the GP? Is it worth going back or not? Is there anything else I can do? She's taking painkillers, using a cold compress, etc.

Have you thought of an osteopath? I am hyper mobile and have (frequently) done the same thing.

My osteopath has given me some strengthening exercises to help my ankles. He also does deep tissue massage to help with the swelling. The exercises do help, but it isn't an instant fix- more long term benefits.

Back to the GP and a referral to the hospital, I'd say. Will say though, ligament damage can take longer to heal than a break.

No real advice but lots of sympathy for your daughter I have hypermobility syndrome and understand the pain glad she had been diagnosed so early I wad fobbed off for over 25 years with different excuses then after 5 min with a physio for something different he noticed and did a few tests diagnosed there and then it was such a relief. Just do what she thinks best I do knees are my biggest problem everyone tells me to rest I know from experience that only makes me worse I have to keep moving
