What should my blood sugar be about 2 hours after eating? What amount would be too low?

Between 4-7 would be normal IME, expecting it to be the higher end after food

It was 4.3 (done by my FIL) 2 hours after eating. He told me its too low and to see my GP.

It is perfect for a non-diabetic www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes_care/blood-sugar-level-ranges.html

Thank you. FIL thinks he is a GP. Smile

Cubed: why and how did you get your blood sugar tested?

My parents use American units, so in British units (I think!) they were told that anything above 6.1 put someone in the pre-diabetic category and at 6.7 they would be considered diabetic.

I have been feeling poorly on and off. General dizzyness, achey, pain in the stomach on and off. The only way I feel better is by eating something.

Was at FIL's at the weekend and I felt ill again and asked for a biscuit. FIL is diabetic and said my symptoms sounded like he used to feel before he was treated.

Thats how it all came about.

A fasting blood glucose of 7mmol or more, or a 2 hour post glucose load blood glucose of 11.1 or more is likely diabetes (should be 2 tests on separate occasions, unless you have specific symptoms already).

Impaired fasting is 6.1-6.9mmol, and impaired glucose tolerance is a blood glucose of 7.8-11 mmol 2 hours post Glucose load. These mean you are at risk of going on to develop diabetes if you don't address your diet/activity levels/weight.

You might be better to actually check your level when you feel ill, before eating, to make sure you aren't having a hypoglycaemia then. If its below 3.9 then it may be too low and might need investigating.
