Can you have PCOS with normal AF?

I have a hairy chin & a tache :( I am very very overweight :( I get spots and a scan during early pregnancy showed numerous cysts on my ovaries. My Af has always been fine though, and I have fallen pregnant very easily. I also have the signs of insulin resistance (skin tags, difficulty losing weight unless low carb etc)

Could I have PCOS still?

Yes you could. Can't remember exactly what the test for PCOS is but it's basically having more than a certain number of a certain list of symptoms plus hormone test results and visible cysts. You don't have to have everything on the list iyswim.

Also when you say AF has always been fine - what do you mean by fine? Even 2/3 days different cycle length each month counts as "irregular" (I was surprised to learn).

Yes - I have PCOS (confirmed by scan + blood test years ago) and have pretty much always had a completely regular 28 day cycle and I think I ovulate each month. Took me a while to get pregnant but taking Metformin seemed to do the trick. Since having ds (nearly 10 years ago) I haven't seen my GP for my PCOS as other autoimmune disorders have come along and pushed it down the list Hmm But I'm assuming I still have it as once you have it you've always got it?

So yes, you definitely could have PCOS and still have a regular cycle.

minipie, I havent had AF in 12 years (contraception stopped them) but I mean they turned up once a month, but I was young & never counted exact days. I have no idea what my cycle was, I just know I got one roughly once a month. I have fallen pregnant very easily 3 times too, and thought PCOS caused infertility.

Dotty, do you think its worth getting it confirmed by a Dr?

As others have said, the answer is "yes".

PCOS causes infertility when it stops women ovulating. This doesn't happen to all women with PCOS. You were obviously one of the lucky ones.

I've a friend with confirmed PCOS who gets pg if her DH vaguely looks at her.

I have PCOS and it took a long time, but that was due to under active thyroid (got pg immediately once on thyroxine). Worth getting your thyroid and testosterone levels tested too.

Thanks for all the advice.
