Retinal bleed

I've had a small one and spent all day at the eye hospital. No immediate cause was found and I didnt see an eye doctor being as its the weekend. Eye pressure normal, blood pressure normal.
So they took photos of it and will send me an appoitment for 4 weeks but I'm worried sick and it blocks my vision.

Any advice?

Do you mean a retinal haemorrhage? If so I had one several yars ago and it caused no issues and went away by itself

thankyou, that is reassuring. Mister Doom at the eye hospital told me they always have a cause so I came home pretty scared. Its not a huge bled but its blocking part of my vision.
Googling talks about diabetes type 1 or the topomax I take as possible issues (far as I know I dont have diabetes) and 4 weeks seems like ages to wait for an appointment.

Are you diabetic?

FutTheShuckUp · 01/09/2013 15:17

Mine was because I was in the last stages of pregnancy

Hi - I had a retinal bleed on a Sunday, four weeks ago and spent next day at Eye hospital. I was told, after detailed exam of retina that there was no apparent tear and have to go back next week. My vision was really blurred tho and could see thousands of black dots (blood cells) but they have reduced now and nearly back to normal. Mine was due to a vitreous detachment and bleed was caused by it tearing retinal blood vessels. Sound awful but as long as it doesn't actually tear retina, you will be fine.

Hope that helps.

Oh forgot to add, I was told its just caused by being middle aged or wear and tear.

twistyfeet · 01/09/2013 18:56

thankyou, that sounds reassuring. Apart from the middle aged bit Wink
The nurses seemed less bothered than the opthamologist (I didnt see an actual doctor). Hopefully by the time I go back to the clinic it will be gone but its making seeing difficult!
