my beautiful ds1 is having his testical removed tomorrow, at jimmy's. he is only 22 months. Following tests on the tumour he will have the appropriate scans then we will know if it has spread or not. I think it is the start of a long road... I think the worst part for him will being starved from 7amGrin !

Pruni · 19/06/2006 19:57

Oh louismummy, you must be so worried. DH had TC a few years ago (but he was 30) and I know how it is with him, but with someone so small....
I know you'll have been told this but the cure rate is so high.
What kind of cancer has he got? (DH had a teratoma.)

louismummy · 20/06/2006 20:24

operation went well, ds very clingy today . me i'm fed up with bob the builderGrin. it was a nightmare yesterday trying to entertain him and distract him from his food!!! we will waiting to find out what type of testicular cancer he has got then scan next week. ( another g.a.) then results. then more than likely chemo Sad.

dh had chemo after his op , three lots and was fine after each dose. I know that dh was a grown man, and it is so much harder since it is your little son, but just to tell you that dh kept all his hair and was not sick once....felt like a bad hang over he said. We had to be carefulthat he didn't go to big gatherings of people, so that he didn't get infections for a little while, but he was totaly fine with all the chemo.

They will check your son on a regular basis for 10 years, from 5 years it is on a yearly basis. Dh has now been given the all clear for 2 years.

As I said, it all still works and he fathered both our kids post op and chemo.

I hope your son is feeling better soom.

Hugs

JoolsToo · 20/06/2006 20:32

glad it all went well and hope you get encouraging news to follow Smile

glad you dh is doing well mb Smile

Blandmum · 20/06/2006 20:33

12 year, no, actulay it is 14 years!

Bloody hell, where did that time go???

I worried myself daft about it, but he was fine.

monkeytrousers · 21/06/2006 20:50

{{}} to you all Louismummy.

louismummy · 03/07/2006 22:20

so we have the test results for ds1 he has a yolk sac tumor. he is having a scan on wed, where he'll need a g.a. then we have a case conference on fri to see if he needs chemo. the surgeon said that since this type of cancer is very sensitive they tend to give it. dreading starving him in this weather.

OP posts:
louismummy · 07/07/2006 15:36

so scan results have been favourable, so he will not need chemo at the moment. he'll have to go for weekly blood tests to check for tumour markers, as long as they keep dropping he won't need it. the good news hasn't sunk in yet.... thanks for your support
