my sis did the bike thing too and she still has a lovely scar on her top lip (at 20years)

my offspring....

Q1 age?: Not yet 3.
Q2a ambulance?: Twice. 9months-sprung off bed and landed on floor. 10mths-pushed himself and high chair backwards while eating lunch by folding his little legs up and flicking them out-lots of vomit(lunch)
Q2b Diagnosis: Slightly anxious mum, very happy smiley baby.
Q3a A & E?: Twice.today and two weeks ago. Both head injuries. first one Ds was pretending to be Sporticus from Lazy Town and during a flying spin, he banged his head on concrete floor. blood out of nose.
Today chasing girls at nursery, found the smallest piece of ledge in his very safe room to bounce his head off.
Q3b: bumped nose during fall, keep an eye
glued head, very smiley 2-and-three-quarter year old.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 13/07/2006 23:23

6.5 and 1 0

3 times with the now 6 year old
observation only (banged his head hard on the wall); MRI scan (hurt his eye); X-ray (banged his head). All OK.

Ellbell · 13/07/2006 23:40

1: 6 and 4
2: Never
3: 4 times
(a) Dd1 shut finger in door. X-rayed. Not broken, sent home with bandage and lots of stickers!
(b) Dd1 D&V - thought she might be dehydrated. Pronounced OK and sent home.
(c) Dd2 fell over and cut lip open. Needed six stitches done under GA. Stayed in overnight, but sent home the next day. Back a week later to have stitches out.
(d) Dd1 poked dd2 in the eye (accidentally). Half of eye totally bloodshot. Got it checked out at A&E on advice of NHS direct. She could see fine, so left it and it went away of its own accord.

Hmmm... three out of 4 visits required no action to be taken. Do I sound like a time-waster?

MumtoBen · 23/07/2006 22:27

There was an article in our local paper about a mum who was refused an ambulance (after a 999 call) and put through to NHS direct. She was told a doctor would ring back in an hour, but they didn't. Her son was in severe pain in his stomach. She called a taxi instead. He had appendicitis and had to have an operation. NHS Direct said they followed their procedures.

Since could an ambulance be refused?

Roisin, my sis is a GP & has done various stints in A&E. She says the general consensus is that none of them ever mind worried parents & children but they get really, really pi$$ed off treating drunks on Fri & Sat night and all the hypochondriac adults who could have waited to see their GP on Monday with their sore toe!!!!
