Bit of a story - over 7 years ago I had two athroscopies done on my knee for removal of 'plica' and half the fat pad was removed as it was snaring in the knee joint and constantly inflamed. Since then, I've not really been able to kneel on that knee and have had bouts of what the doctor calls 'viral arthritis' where I have to go on steroids (last bout of this was about a year ago) Just recently I get a really strange sensation that the joint is out of place and a sensation which I can only term as my knee changing gear (!) When this happens my athroscopy scars become very raised and pronounced. This morning I lent forward to empty the washing machine and had the most excruciating pain in my knee. Currently raised it and icing it. Do I need to see doc or is it just some sort of muscle ache.

Labro: I don't know if you are experiencing something similar to my situation. I had an op called a lateral release. It's to loosen tight tissue attached to the kneecap which is pulling the kneecap out of place. The kneecap used to dislocate (for want of a better word) with a loud click and then I had to manoeuvre it back into place (very painful) making another loud click as it went back. It involves a cut across the front of the kneecap. I also had damaged cartilage removed at the same time. I do also have arthritis, though it wasn't so bad at the time the op was done.

At the time I had the op, the consultant wrote about a lateral release but didn't do it in the end. Hate going back to consultant as always muttered disparaging remarks about my weight! Thanks though. If it carries on looks like a trip to docs.
