Please tell me I don't have to go to the minor injuries unit...

DS2 (5) has cut the back of his head open. It's probably a hole of 7mm diameter, bleeding sluggishly. He's fine so there's no question of concussion.

I really really dont want to have to take him (and DS1 and DD) to have it glued. How long can I give it to stop bleeding?

We used to slide down on metal trays!!

I think I'm going to leave it. If it weren't in his hair I definitely wouldn't go because I could easily stick it back together.

In the last 24 hours. I've had to make a return trip to school because DS1 needed antihistimine and I'd forgotten it, DD was Banshee Baby from Hell in the hairdressers, the oven broke, DS1 smacked his face on the plastic rocker toy and knoced out a front tooth (was wobbly but blood everywhere - the other one is hanging from a thread), I discovered we had mice in the playroom so I have to completely empty it and tidy today and now this. I just want to curl up in a ball and cry piteously :o

Yes- curling up in a ball and blubbing furiously sounds far preferable to A & E to me. Go for it!

Sorry but I'd go (easy for me to say though adn probably I'd be dithering if it were one fo mine). ds fell against a table and cut his ear. It bled for a while and had almost stopped by the time we got there but it wouldn't have closed without the glue. It was deeper than it looked too. What did he cut it on , could there be any dirt in it still ?

SoupDragon · 17/06/2006 12:55

Probably a brick wall - I was inside the church hall queuing to register DSs for a summer play scheme! It didn't look like it had anything in it.

I'm still dithering. It's the practicalities of it all that make me not want to go. Sigh.

soupdragon, if its still bleeding in another hour you need to go, if its not likely to heal on its own, they can stick it together with "superglue".
fwiw though dd2 fell the other week and gashed her head, it was quite deep, but stopped seeping after an hour.

edam · 17/06/2006 13:34

Was it a plastered and painted brick wall, or raw brick? If raw brick, I'd go - very rough surface, could be stuff stuck in wound that you can't see.

And agree with SpaceCadet re go anyway if it doesn't stop bleeding within an hour.

I was such an obnoxiously careful big sister, I worked out the padding against the wall all by myself before we even started playing going down the stairs on a mattress. Never tried a teatray. Am quite tempted to give it a go but suspect they don't make them big enough for my lardy backside. Grin

Sigh. Did the decent thing and trotted up to the minor injut=ries unit. 2 hours and an encounter with a tube of glue later and we're back.

I'm going to make him wear a s*dding crash helmet and bubble wrap from now on.

SoupDragon · 17/06/2006 20:27
