Had it for a day or two. Feeling pressure to wee and burning and stinging towards the end and the need to squeeze more but can't. Had a tummy cramps too. My wee looks rather cloudy and I've been drinking lots of water etc and cranberry juice. I am meant to be going away Monday :-/ can I but anything over the counter??? Tried ringing docs yesterday and as usual pointless as cannot get through. Feeling sore.

Half a teaspoon of bicarb of soda in water- up to 3 x a day but not if you have high blood pressure.
Lloyds chemists will do an online prescription for antibiotics if you fill in the details online.
Good luck!

Oh really. Thank you

I didn't know that about lloyds - What a good idea!!

Avoid alcohol, tea and coffee, sex (cant imagine that you are in the mood) and spicy food.

Most chemist and supermarkets sell sachets to mix into water to ease the symptoms of cystitis but they might just be a fancier version of what prettyrainbow suggested. Some women find barley water good too.

Lots and lots of water and paracetamol too. And a hot water bottle.

noddyholder · 24/08/2013 17:00

Stop the cranberry as it makes it worse once established its only a preventative! Lemon barley and loads of water If it gets worse go to teh doctor.

topsi · 24/08/2013 17:10

Step away from the Cranberry juice. It makes your wee acidic which is good for prevention but will make an attack worse!
As said before use the sachets and get to a Dr for some abx.
Sitting in a warm bath can help.
It is horrid I hope you feel better soon

specialsubject · 24/08/2013 17:23

get those sachets, knickers off and long skirt on if you need to maintain decency. Now start drinking as much water or very weak squash as you can push down your throat, along with the medication. Keep drinking and drinking to fill and refill your bladder so there is something to wash it out. This will take some hours before you feel better. Camp out in the toilet with a lot of water and a good book.

no coffee, tea, fruit juice. Warm bath may help but nothing in it except water, no bubbles.

it never goes without antibiotics so arrange that.

AliceinSlumberland · 24/08/2013 17:28

I had one a couple of weeks ago and got the sachets from boots, it was a 48 hour course and it did the job, no antibiotics needed.

RummidgeGeneral · 24/08/2013 17:34

Not much use to you at the moment I know, but to avoid cystitis always try to have a wee after sex. You only have to squeeze a few drops out: it doesn't have to be a big wee!

Pass this tip on to other women please. It really works. It makes me really angry that the medicines for cystitis that you buy never suggest it - but then they would be cutting into their profits. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Dackyduddles · 24/08/2013 19:58

You can get sachets in boots. Taste foul but by heck they do the job

Hope better soon

NotInTheMood · 24/08/2013 22:21

Ok thank you def will get the sachets tommorrow as not really easing :-( typical it a bank hol I will never get in to see the doc!!! I'm sure I've got it from camping this weekend and holding my bladder in night as too dark and cold to go to the loo :-/

LOADS of water.

And if you see blood in your wee, you really need some antibiotics.

TheCrackFox · 24/08/2013 22:51

I always mix the sachets with Ribena.

DrinaDancesInParis · 26/08/2013 11:52

Waterfall D Mannose works. sorry for being a broken record on cystitis threads!

YY to no cranberry juice rule! How this myth persists is beyond me. The first time I ever got cystitis I drank gallons of the stuff as that's what everyone (including a nurse) told me to do, and I ended up in hospital with a severe kidney infection. The doctor there had a fit when I told him what I'd done and said "why didn't you just throw some rugs and cushions around your bladder to make the bacteria even more at home!"

And yes if you get blood or your kidneys start to ache, go to a Walk In centre pronto.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

specialsubject · 26/08/2013 19:57

that camping trip does sound the cause. You are clearly sensitive to this so make sure you don't make that mistake again.

it is never THAT dark and cold. :-)
