what are the vaccination requirements for babies?

Sorry to ask such a basic question but we've just had the slip through calling dd (5 weeks) for vaccinations at the doctor's. I know some things have changed from when ds had the vaccinations 3 years ago, but isn't the timetable of 2, 3 and 4 months the same still? and then no more until MMR at 12-15 months? Surgery receptionist didn't seem to know.

Also, I think the vaccinations themselves have changed a bit in the last year or so. Mercury has been removed (hurray), polio is now no longer live and has a vaccination been added? what is Prevenar - is it a new vaccination and when do you have it?

Would be most grateful if someone could give me a list of what vaccinations are due when and also let me know what changes have been made to the set of jabs in the last 12 months or so, so I know what dd will/should be getting.

Thanks

I have found a link to the NHS website giving info about the various vaccinations and the timetable for them: \link{http://www.immunisation.nhs.uk/article.php?id=97\Immunisations}

Your daughter will also get the Pneumococcal vaccine (Prevenar) sometime before her second birthday.

Seona, that's great. thanks. Looks like the surgery has jumped the gun a bit on timing.

Amyjade - do you know how the Prevenar jab timing fits in with the MMR timing? Not sure I want the two together. Also, does my 3 year old need the Prevenar since he was not offered it when he was 2 (must have just missed its introduction)?

What a horrendous load of injections. I thought it was loads when ds was having them 3 years ago and its more rather than less.

bump on prevenar question, please. My 3 year old didn't get this. Will he be offered it later? or should I try and arrange it for him?

I dont recall my dd having it either (tbh I didnt know they were supposed to get it). She is 2 1/2.

I have found a link about it on that nhs immunisation website - it is due to come into force during 2006/07:

Thanks Seona. I'd better get organised on this. The invites sent out from the GP's surgery seem to be a bit hit and miss here so I had better make sure that I, at least, need to know what dd is supposed to be having in case the nurse doesn't :).

I think that there will be a "catch-up" programme coming in soon where lo who had their jabs before prevenar introduced in their area will get the chance to be immunised. This should mean that your ds will get called then.

amyjade · 18/06/2006 11:36

My 19 month old daughter died 14 months ago from Pneumococcal meningitis so although it seems like a horrendous lot of injections they are also very important.

Only the under 2's will be given Prevenar in the catch up programme.

Dd2 is having her third Prevenar with the MMR next month. Prevenar isn't live so is safe to give with the MMR but you can choose to have it
seperatly if you wish.
