chlorine and eczema

Took DD and DS2 swimming today in my local health club. We were having a lovely time (only ones in the pool) until a lady who worked there came to the side of the pool and apologised and asked if we could leave the pool because they had to close it as the chlorine levels were getting too high Shock

We of course, got out immediately.

Now DS2's eczema has flarred up really bad. In fact, the worst it has ever been. It is red and angry and he is covered. Poor little mite.

I am assuming its because of the chlorine as it normally flares up a little after swimming - just not this bad. Any other experiences?

Yes, ds gets incredibly itchy after swinmming. We haven't been for two years because of it.

I'm too scared to take my DS swimming because of his eczema. What did you do the first time you went in the pool? His is under control at the moment.

I read that it was a good idea to apply lots of vaseline as a barrier before swimming & that does seem to have helped DS. His skin now just flares up a little after swimming.

I didnt realise swimming and eczema was such a bad thing! I must confess, I dont take him every week cos of it but hadnt even crossed my mind not ever to take him. I just moisturise loads before, shower him down after and moisturise, moisturise moisturise after and normally thats ok. Calms down after about 24/48 hours.

Feel mean now taking him at all :(

ds (whose eczema is so mild it has never even caused us to have a GP visit) gets terrible eczema after swimming in one pool that we visit (and not the others). He gets it all over his tummy and legs. I've found that showering as soon as we come home and then applying a lot of softening cream (like aveeno or diprobase) helps and then putting on the hydrocortisone before bed time (almost before it has a chance to really flare up).

If it looks bad straight away, then I would go straight for the steroid creams personally because we've found that eczema brought on by the pool can last a long time Sad

mind you - your replies have reassured me. :) At least now I am 99.9% sure it is the chlorine that has done this to him today.
