Really worried my mum has numb chin syndrome

My mum started last Friday with terrible pain from what felt like a mouth ulcer in her mouth. I looked in her mouth but couldn't really see anything but she felt that that she could feel a lump and still does. It then made her face go into incredible painful spasms which no amount of pain killers could help. Over the weekend it seemed to lessen and on Monday she mentioned it to her GP while having her annual high blood pressure review. Doctor thought it had probably been a mouth ulcer that was resolving. But on Tuesday the pain came back. Sounded initially like a neuralgia pain as the pain came in painful spasms. The worst of the pain has now gone but she is left with a numb chin. Made the mistake of googling and found numb chin syndrome. She is due to go back to the doctor but understand that numb chin is often overlooked. I don't want to worry her by telling her about this but not sure what to do. Didn't sleep a wink last night. Please can anyone tell me it could be something else.

Any updates?? I have terrible anxiety and have been experiencing what feels like numbness & numbness of lips & chin.

Hi @HZMom I posted about my chin 2 years ago. All MRI's were clear, dental X-rays were clear, neurology examination was clear, everything was clear and I'm still here 2 years later with a numb chin.

Numb chin is only marginally related to cancers. I found a lump near my arm pit last year and while in hospital getting it checked at the breast clinic I mentioned my numb chin, the Dr had never heard of a numb chin being assiciated with breast cancer, and this was her area of speciality. So Google saying its mostly linked to breast cancer, what it should say is that its very rarely linked to cancer, but on the rare case it happened to be breast.

There was a health forum on Google somewhere full of people who all panicked after searching Google and who all revisited the site regularly for years reassuring they were fine, most never got to the bottom of it, some got better and some still had a numb chin. It could be as simple as nerve damage.

It's always best to get it checked tho of course. I recommend making a dentist appointment as well as they will want to do a jaw x-ray and examination to rule out dental issues.

If it helps to reassure you, the neurologist told me that all the really bad things it could be would be happening alongside other serious symptoms and you'd notice a quick decline in health. If it's just a numb chin and not really anything else then it's most likely not serious. I hope you get to the bottom of it Flowers

I have migraines that sometimes cause chin/ facial numbness.
I too made the mistake of googling and scared myself shitless!

There are so many less sinister things it could be.

Oh god, my chin went numb early 2020 and by the time I googled what numb chin was to see if i needed to see a Dr we were in the 1st week of the 1st lockdown so the fear was awful!

My emergency neurology referal took 6 months. But by the time I saw a neurologist I knew it couldn't be anything serious because I was still fine, but oh, having to come to that conclusion the long way and all by myself was frightening 😂

Thanks. You made me feel better. I agree with all you've said.
As far as other things going on, I just have severe health anxiety anc it's super high right now. It all started about 4 months ago when I started getting dizzy/woozy spells off and on, which I still get. Also, I feel the anxiety over all of it and googling is causing my limbs to feel weak and all of this has me on edge.
I do have some good days though, which give me hope that I'll be ok once I get through this crazy flare up. Thank you!
