PH Levels and Candidiasis

I have been struggling with my weight for years now and in the last year requested my Thyroid function be tested. The GP gave me the look which spoke volumes "middle-aged mother of two, can't lose weight..." As it turns out, my levels were off the scale, so I have a low functioning Thyroid. The pills seem to have contributed nothing and despite regular exercise and, on the most part, eating healthily, the energy levels and weight remains the same.

I then read an article about high glucose levels needing to be checked, as GPs will only give diagnosis of 'Diabetes' but not pre-Diabetes, where the levels are very high but do not fall into the official range, to warrant the title. He put me on Metformin - the drug commonly given to Diabetics. Again, no change.

What has been mentioned before and keeps popping up, is Candida or 'Candidiasis' - the over-production of yeast in the gut. Quite by chance today, whilst clearing out the bathroom cabinet, I found some PH Testing Sticks (inherited from my father) and decided to check my PH levels. They came up as 5.0 and when I 'Googled' this, it showed it as being 'Dangerously Acidic'.

I am not totally surprised but being a mother of two children with special needs, I come way down the list of priorities. It would seem, however, that I need to action and fast. I pride myself in being very proactive, towards everything else so guess I need to put that into practice on my diet.

Can anyone recommend a 'do-able' diet for treating Candidiasis and any personal experiences of anyone who has tried / is trying this.

Thanks

Hi soph sorry to hear that you haven't had much luck with the gp, you probably have already come across this website but it does have some useful stuff
www.thecandidadiet.com/foodstoeat.htm
Would having this be the cause of not losing weight? have you had any other blood tests, I think pcos can make you gain weight.

Thank you for that - actually I came across that site last night and have already begun cutting out sugars from my diet. It's fairly constricting but have managed well today so far on mint tea, omelette (with no milk) and broccoli with brown rice for supper, so finger's crossed. I will, however, reach out to some more professional nutritional advice too. Thanks again x

Hi sophj.
I recently went for a natural health assessment and that showed up a bit of an issue with candida.
I was told to cut out gluten (not forever, just until things were under control) and to take a probiotic. Also advised to get rid of dairy for a while. This I've found much harder but, after trying many different milk substitutes, have found rice milk to be the best. Whe the Cadbur's Dairy Milk is winking at me from the fridge, I keep repeating the mantra ' this is not forever!!'
I thought the gluten bit would be horrendous but after a week on the diet it's not really all that bad. This is the probiotic that was recommended:

Good luck with it all

Thanks Pepperquip, that's also a great help. I do find the children's chocolate calling out to me but am determined to get this under control! I'll check the link out later. x

Was it your urine pH that you tested?

sophj100 · 22/08/2013 15:11

Yes.

I've read that cider vinegar can normalise an overly acidic system & helps with all sorts of health problems, you need the good stuff though -

Apple Cider Vinegar with the "Mother" in it - you can buy at health stores, but not cheap , though apparently its easy to brew your own - google for how - I've just started a jar going, I've a friend doing it successfully & has had great results with his gout
