Anyone here familiar with H pylori? Worried

My dad has had recurrent stomach problems for a number of years and had several hernias and ulcers removed. The doctors have diagnosed him with h pylori, a type of bacteria in the stomach that causes recurrent ulcers.
He is in a lot of pain.
I have done a bit of research and found it can be linked to an increased risk of stomach cancer :( very worried now.
Has anyone got any experience with this?

My DH and my sister both tested positive for h.pylori. I read somewhere that two-thirds of the global population is thought to carry the infection. This suggests to me at least that other factors in addition to having h.pylori would increase risk of gastric cancer, rather than just having the infection on its own. Risk factors like having a parent or sibling who had gastric cancer, poor diet, smoking etc.

I am sorry you are worrying about your dad. Why don't you speak to your own GP about it or if your dad has a gastro consultant maybe go along to an appointment and ask. Also, what about calling Macmillan helpline? I think they run one.

Also, I assume that your dads h.pylori is being treated and that he is seeing his GP about the pain so that they can identify what's causing it.

Yes, 60% of the population of the world have it! Easily treated with antibiotics. I became an unwilling expert about 5 yr ago when I had it. The stomach cancer stats were really really low IIRC because the h.pylori is so easily treatable.

Try not to worry about your Dad, he should get rid of the h.pylori now it's been found. It's mad actually that he hadn't been tested for it before with such classic symptoms.

I needed 2 rounds of antibs to get rid of my bugger and the GP told me if the second lot didn't do it, he wouldn't bother giving me any more I'd just have to learn to live with it (and burp constantly)
