Help & advice needed - adult with tongue tie, tongue thrust, and anterior open bite

After my DD has been treated for upper lip tie, I've learned a lot about TT and ULT in recent months.

I've noticed I have a posterior tongue tie. I also tongue-thrust quite severely when I swallow. I'm having a bimaxillary osteotomy next year to correct my anterior open bite, which is now quite severe after years of teeth grinding and mouth guards. I've had a lot of low level jaw pain, and migraines, as well as neck, shoulder and back tension which has caused problems for other areas of my body (I do a lot of sport).

I recently saw an amazing video (nursingrubysue.wordpress.com/are-you-tongue-tied/) in which an adult who's had similar grinding and clenching problems for me described the effect of a recent tongue tie revision. I actually cried with empathy at the video, as it describes my symptoms perfectly. So many of the problems I've had in adulthood could potentially be linked back to tension created by the TT.

At the moment I'm under consultant led orthodontics and with transfer to the surgeon nearer the time of my surgery. I've also just had a referral to an ENT to talk about tongue thrust/tongue tie as the GP didn't know what to say, or recommend, and other than offering me antidepressants didn't really have any advice about it all when I put it to her.

So if you are still reading after all of this - does anyone have any form of clinical research or studies which I can use to back up my case with the ENT specialist and my surgeon? I had made peace with the idea of surgery but I'm worried that my bite will deteriorate again after the surgery if it is actually tongue tie and tongue thrust that is to blame. I had a lot of childhood complaints related to TT/tongue thrust, including ear ache, headaches, teeth grinding, and fatigue, and in fact my front teeth were not level until I started orthodontics this year, because my tongue pushes one of them further forward.

And how should I ask for treatment of my TT? I don't know much about the process for adults.

Thanks in advance.
