GP has diagnosed breast cysts possibly 3 and I'm going to breast clinic next week after holiday. I'm bf DD aged 1, she dropped her feeds dramatically when on holiday last week which is y I think I developed this lump. Anyone else had these ?

Me I found a lump in one breast and got referred to breast clinic which scared me shitless but they scanned and mammogram end me and confirmed multiple cysts in one breast only. Apparently most common in women between 40 and the menopause. Harmless and can fluctuate often. They tend to leave them unless they are infected and need draining. So don't worry!! Good luck at the breast clinic the staff are normally totally lovely!!

I found a lump (on my 21st birthday!). Was terrified but it was just a cyst and apparently quite common generally, but more unusual at 21. They weren't worried about removing it and said it was highly unlikely to cause any problems but they would take it out if I wanted - I had it out. I know it's scary but try not to worry.

I didn't have children at the time so don't know about breast-feeding and whether it would affect that - sorry.

Forgot to say that I also found one at 29 whilst breast feeding and had a biopsy on it. I don't think they ever told me properly what it was just that it was benign!

GP says 98% sure it's cysts but ordered a ultrasound not sure y but I am worried

When my youngest was about 3 months old, I developed a lump, which after a bit of worry was diagnosed as a milk cyst, and drained without any problem. Last year though I had a mammogram (at age 47 - new initiative in our area , thanks ) and they found more lumps. These were again diagnosed as cysts. They have left them there this time though.

It is a terrible worry, but you must remember that most of these things are totally benign. Please try not to worry, but Flowers and Cake for you, hopefully you will have good news soon.

I had one. Found a lump, GP said at my age (28 at the time) it was 99% likely to be a cyst and referred me to the breast clinic. They were lovely, scanned it, then drained it with a huge needle. They drained it cos it hurt a bit when I poked it! It was fine. Hasn't come back yet but they said it might. I think most of the are derived from milk tissue but the fluid can be watery or coloured (green/blackish) or milky.

Thanks ladies , my boobs feel like a bag of peas at the moment anyway so I haven't a clue what's what ? Glad others have had the same and been ok. Made me feel bit better

Yeah I had a huge one. They drained the fluid out and the colour of the fluid was disgusting sporners! I have since had scans which have revealed multiple cysts but they have not needed treating. Just a bit painful each month. Hope all turns out ok. Cysts are very different from scary lumps. Two GPs thought mine was a cyst and they were right.

Lonelybunny · 15/08/2013 20:45

Mine doesn't hurt and seems to have come on since DD limited her feeds gradually , but it's annoying me and I keep thinking is it round or irregular I can feel the difference , but I will trust my GP she should know I guess

The clinics are usually very good at either giving you a diagnosis on the day or giving you a very good indication of the likely outcome so I hope you get some reassurance quickly. I know how worried you will be.

Lonelybunny · 15/08/2013 20:55

I can't go till a week as I've got holiday for a week , just hope I can overcome the worry to enjoy the time with my family :-/
