Pressing chest pain causes

RoxyFox211 · 14/08/2013 08:36

I noticed a pressing achey sensation on the left side of my chest (over my heart) last night, it felt really tight and uncomfortable.
I have a history of anxiety so just breathed through it and tried to assure myself it was due to that, or tight clothes or indigestion. But waking up this morning it is still there! It comes and goes, triggered by sudden movements. I don't really have any other symptoms apart from feeling like I need to burp alot more than normal. I don't think it's a heart attack but im worried it could be angina. Im only 23, BMI of about 21, occasional smoker and quite heavy drinker. I get palpations a lot.
I think I'm going to make a drs appointment (probably earliest sometime next week). But I'm trying to reassure myself in the meantime because obviously now im focused on it I'm panicking. Anyone know what this could be? Reading online like nhs etc isn't much help because symptoms of angina & heartburn seem very similar. Any advice appreciated :(

Could well be anxiety but obviously anything serious needs ruling out.

I had similar recently and it took two very thorough examinations by different GP's before I believed it was anxiety.

You need to see your GP, get appointment this morning.

Guess with the burping and pain it may be gastritis caused by the drinking. Lay off for a bit. Drinking will also be making your anxiety much worse.

You need to deal with this urgently.

DH had such pains a few weeks ago and delayed going to hospital. He's still here to tell the tale but he has a blood clot (pulmonary embolism) on his lung, and has had to embark on a long term blood thinning treatment.

It may be something innocuous- I certainly hope so- but you don't need to be taking those risks.

first things first: go and see a doc on an emergency appt.

it could be muscular as in a strained rib or chest muscle. they're v painful. the heart is actually in the centre of your chest so it may not be heart related. perhaps oesophagus related due to the booze?

Yep, emergency apt. If it's nothing then, fine. BUt they need to check.

I get awful chest pains & when it first started, my GP sent me straight to the acute admissions bit (like A&E but where you are sent there by a dr so don't need to wait), telling them I'd be there 'in about 7 minutes'

I spent the entire day there, having ECGs, blood tests & scans. I have tachycardia but the pain was caused by inflammation of the muscles in my chest & wasn't my heart.

Please get it checked.
