I work with them, what do you need to know?

LargeGlassofRed · 16/08/2013 11:40

Ooh thanks, I have to have regular chest X-rays and ct scans due to sarcoidosis, but since March I've had continuous severe plueratic pain,
The chest X-rays and ct show no change though, I'm convinced they'd either a small about of fluit or puss there, I've had this previously. When researching on line I found out about having a chest xray lieing down on the painful side as this shows small collections of fluid up better. I've never had one, and wonder if they do them in the nhs and wether to ask for one?
Sorry that was very long and rambly :)

They do do lateral chest x-rays (lying on your side) in my department here on the NHS but not as standard. Even small pockets of fluid can be seen on x-rays & CTs so I would honestly say if there was something to be seen it would have been. (On CT they can see cysts etc that are only mm in diameter). If there was any uncertainty at all they would have recalled you for further views.

Obviously I'm not a radiologist but I type their reports all day so get to know a bit. If you are concerned you could go back to your GP & request further imaging, or have it done privately if they won't refer you.

Sorry if this doesn't help much.

Thanks helsbells, just want a find a physical cause for all the pain, the area is where I've had a previous empyema and two thoracotomy's. but the pain started after a bad chest infection, have a lot of scarring in that area, just hate the thought of living with it indefinitely.

LargeGlassofRed, I hope you are feeling better! Thanks
I also have sarcoidosis; and go through a lot of testing. Sometimes it feels never ending!
I hope you get some firm answers about the cause of your pain.

I was diagnosed in the spring, I have been sick for about a year so far. I am miles better than I was, for sure, but still not well. My breathing is so much better, I actually just came off my puffers. I take prednisone for my joints, which is helping too.
How long did it take for you to get diagnosed?

LargeGlassofRed · 18/08/2013 07:20

I'd been picked up on an xray for something else, but had not been right for about 6 months before that, had everything confirmed after I developed neurosarcoid about 6 months after that. I've been on prednisalone and methotrixate for the last 18 months, but having another flare up at the moment, I think due to the sun on holiday.
