So... Anyone fancing talking to me about nasal irrigation?

Yes, thrilling, I know Grin

Doctor has recommended it to try and manage my sinuses during a charming allergy flare up. I have some of that salt spray which says you can use it for irrigation but let's be honest, it was £7 a spray so I'd rather use it to moisturise and not use half a can irrigating. Those mini watering cans look terrifying though. Can anyone give me any tips or advice?

You can use a small 10ml syringe to gently irrigate if you prefer.

Dh uses a neti pot with no trouble. He is fascinated withwhat comes out of his nose though and always wants me to look Hmm

The neti pot cost a few quid off eBay.

Thanks both - I might have to try the neti pot. Just seems weird pouring something like that up your nose!

I tried the neti pot and it was ok however I much prefer Neilmed. It only took me a few days to get used to it and it's fine. My sinuses are much better since I started using it. The saline solution comes in little packets so it's all very easy to use.

I'm away to see if I can find a link to Neilmed.

DH has had amazing results with the Neilmed bottle and solution. He used to be a total pain in the arse bore about his sinuses but doing a nasal rinse twice a day has helped tremendously.

You can buy all the kit online and it's much, much cheaper than in the shops.

Here

Here you are although it's a bit OTT. It takes me about 1 minute to do all this and I certainly don't boil water for it.

TerracottaPie · 15/08/2013 16:14

Ive just been given NeilMed by my ENT surgeon along with the recipe up thread for making up own saline solution. I have to combine mine with a steroid solution too.

I have been putting off starting it to be honest but the you tube video that's been linked has made me think about getting on with it as it doesn't look that bad.

Thurlow · 15/08/2013 16:33

Ooh, thank you! I don't mind making some solution but I don't have time to boil and cool before I do it, especially as my doctor is currently recommending 3-4 times a day and I can't see work letting me boil and snort water Grin That NeilMed looks good and not expensive.

I've got the Neilmed, it's very good but there is a bit of a knack to it. I've never done it more than once a day and I do use boiling water (the powder dissolves much faster, I make my own from bicarb and salt), then let it cool. The sachets probably dissolve faster if they are more finely ground. In fact I haven't had to use it for ages.
