choice between potentially ending up with a huge right boob or a tiny, disfigured one... WWYD??

Around last xmas I found a lump right in the centre, behind the nipple in my right breast. It was around the size of a walnut and quite painful when squeezed.
After many investigations it turned out it was a benign growth called fibroadenomatoid hyperplasia. Of course it was a huge relief to find out it wasn't cancer, that was really all I cared about at the time. The consultant suggested leaving it as it would be difficult to operate on because the edges are kind of ragged and not well defined, blending in with the surrounding tissue. Also, as my boobs are only about a B cup at best, he kind of suggested that he would have to remove so much tissue it would mean my boob would be quite a bit smaller than the other one and quite possibly disfigured (these were his actual words).
I was happy with that at the time, as the pain wasn't too bad and I'm not keen on having surgery anyway.
However, in the past few weeks the pain has gotten quite a bit worse and the lump has more than doubled. I would say I'm well on the way to being a C cup now on the right side. I have been kind of trying to pretend this wasn't happening but it's got to the point now where I just can't ignore it any longer.
Also, it feels like the tissue is sort of "hijacking" the rest of my breast, as there seems to be hardly any normal, soft breast tissue left, its all just hard and painful.
So I'm faced with the choice now, I guess - do I keep waiting and hope it stops growing again soon (I'm not really bothered about having one breast slightly larger than the other) or go back and ask for surgery and hope for the best??
I just don't know what to do for the best

Second opinion and reconstructive surgery with removal

Your consultant sounds like a nob

Could they not offer you some kind of reconstructive surgery if the imbalance is going to be noticeable Shock. I'm sure they would?

I've had mastectomy, and am waiting for a reconstruction operation. Ask fro a referral to a plastic surgeon (specialising in breast work) for reconstructive surgery after or at the same time as you have your lump removed. There are several types of reconstruction available - using implants or using tissue from another part of your body, a plastic surgeon will discuss what would be the best option for you. Results of this surgery are usually very good.

My DD had a walnut sized cyst in a breast and had it removed. It was benign. No problem.

What Bound said, although I'm not sure I'd bother with reconstructive surgery. See how it goes.
