Going on holiday soon, think my period will arrive whilst away - is there anything I can do?

As the title says Smile My periods are very irregular (anything from 28 to 50 day cycles) but am fairly sure I am ovulating at the moment which means period is likely to arrive in approx 14 days which will be when I am on holiday.

My periods can sometimes be quite heavy and soak through pads/tampons VERY quickly so I really don't want to take the risk.

Is there anything I can do??

Yes there is. If you go to see your GP they can prescribe some Norethisterone which will delay your period until you get back.

If you are on the pill you can take your next pack with no break. If you are not you could visit your GP, they may be able to prescribe you some hormone tablets that might hold it off.

I always use norethisterone for this. It's great. Your gp should be able to prescribe it.

Cool, thanks - I will try that.

Are there any side-effects to the drug?

yes, quite possibly. There's another thread on this subject.

It is not correct to assume that a period will follow exactly or around 14 days after ovulation has occurred, this is a myth. Ovulation is not an exact science and it can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycles. Also it is quite possible to have periods without ovulating at all, with such irregular cycles this scenario is more likely and this is probably happening with you.

Has anyone ever investigated the actual cause of your heaviness of periods?. If not, I would ask the GP for a referral to a gynae, do not put up with this indefinitely. Seek proper medical advice.

attilla thanks for your advice. Basically I am still none the wiser as to when my period will arrive then??

In terms of how heavy they are, it varies. The last 2 have been much lighter than others and I would say that it is only every 3rd or 4th one that is extremely heavy. Never thought it would be worth investigations as it is not every periodHmm

Norethisterone, start 3 days before your holiday then stop when you come home. Do see your GP about the heavy periods - lots they can do.
