please..please..please..Im desperate!!!
eldest dd is a teenager with very long hair, she has refused to have it cut and as a result has had headlice for months, shes passed them on to the whole family, inc meSad.
I have tried everything, full marks mouse, lyclear, full marks lotion, derbac m lotion, robi comb and wet combing, to no avail, the lotions dont work..at all, they are useless, i think we have super lice as after applying the lotion we were still combing out live lice!
dd is constantly scratching, , my scalp is red rawSad, im so desperate, im tempted to have all my hair shaved offSad, in fact im tempted to shave everyones hair, trouble is, dd just gets re infected because shes always cuddling her friends, then she hugs her brothers and sister.
im not a dirty person, ive even tried wet combing for a month, but they still had live lice in their hair.

Ages ago I saw this advice on mumsnet and have used it on my dd and have told friends about it and it has worked on their kids.

When you do combing instead of coditioner use baby oil (I used the nitty gritty comb) - quite alot of it but the blighters cannot hold on as its so slippy and they all come tumbling out - still feel sick at the number that came out of my dd's hair using this method when not one came out using conditioner. The oil is a pain to wash outbut it smells nice and you do have lovely soft hair - I just put my dd's hair in plaits for a couple of weeks.

Good Luck

I've finished applying the Hedrin and combing through. Think I only found one thing in the comb, so hopefully a vigilant teacher has caught it early. But, I have a couple of other questions - do I need to change all sheets on dd's bed and pillows? Do I need to do anything to her school hat??

bundle · 14/06/2006 16:36

change sheets
wash hat (as hot as you can)
don't you have to leave hedrin on overnight?

Earlybird · 14/06/2006 16:39

Yep, have to leave Hedrin on either overnight, or for 8 hours.

Hat is straw boater type, and has thin fabric band around inside - do I need to do anything to it? Can't wash it.....any other suggestions?

SecondhandRose · 14/06/2006 17:06

You just have to sit and pick them all out and the eggs. You'll be like a pair of chimps, just suggest you dont eat them after though!

EmmyLou · 14/06/2006 17:53

Comb lots and use neem oil shampoo or tea tree conditioner to deter the buggers

EmmyLou · 14/06/2006 17:53

Tea tree oil on fabric inner band of hat?

pashmina · 15/06/2006 16:10

Best thing I found was to coat the head with baby oil, then put on a shower cap (fix in place with cling film if needed) The little blighter drown!!! Leave in for 2 hours, and then wash out and comb out with conditioner and lice comb. When you come across one they are dead and not moving. you need to continue with lice comb until you are sure they have gone. It really does work

nittygritty · 16/06/2006 19:02

pasima thanks for the great tip.
well i used the delacet and ..IT WORKS!!!!, when we rinsed, the bath was full of dead lice..ewww, went through with nit comb, there were no live lice at all..yay!!, im going to remember all the fab tips, so that we are well prepared for the next attack..thanks everyoneSmile

It's brill isn't it? :o

tallmummy · 16/06/2006 21:00

Hedrin worked by killing live lice then had to pick out all the eggs like a mummy baboon.

Earlybird · 16/06/2006 21:03

What's good for getting rid of the eggs? We used the Hedrin, and then have combed carefully for the past few nights. But I can't actually see the eggs...don't know if it's my poor eyesight or if I'm not up to speed with exactly what to look for, so impossible for me to do my baboon act!

tallmummy · 16/06/2006 21:15

ds has white blond hair so was easy to see eggs on him. They were attached about 1.5 cm from his scalp, v.pale brown colour, so hard to see on darker, thicker hair. Took ages to get them all. I've done a baboon session with him every night since weds and even tonight I found a load I'd missed.

Earlybird · 16/06/2006 21:28

Hmmm - dd has lots of thick dark hair, and as I said, I don't see them at all. And yes, everytime I scratch my head I wonder if I've got something incubating up there...

tallmummy · 19/06/2006 10:46

EEK - DS1 is all clear of lice and eggs but last night ds2 appeared at my bedside asking what the little bug he had found in his hair was!!

My head was itching like crazy - combed it over a piece of white paper and found 2 lice - eurghh!!

We are all Hedrinned to the gunnels (sp)

Enid · 19/06/2006 10:48

you cant get rid of eggs

must wait til htey hatch

tallmummy · 19/06/2006 11:00

I got them out individually - took hours. Admit I'll have missed some so will repeat treatment after 1 week as recommended.

Enid · 19/06/2006 11:01

wet comb all of you with conditoner every day for a week then every two days for a further week
