Sciatica

I'm 17 weeks pregnant and for the last couple of days have had really painful sciatica, to the point where if I sit still too long or lie in one position in bed it's very painful to move. I'm knackered cos every time I woke up to wee last night (lots) I couldn't get out of bed because it was so painful to move my left leg, I had to kind of wriggle to the bottom of the bed and get out with difficulty.

It all started when i swept and hoovered the downstairs floors. I knew house work was bad for the health!

What can I do to help ease the pain? Paracetamol doesn't seem to do much. Should I see my GP next week?

According to the NHS website pregnancy doesn't actually cause sciatica so maybe this is just something I'll have anyway. I've had occasional twinges before but nowhere near this bad.

And now I'm having to lever myself off the sofa like an old lady so that I can go to bed Sad

I got bad sciatica when I was 28 weeks pg. I found a bath helped and I bought a maternity pillow. It allowed me to sleep at an angle and was soft behind me so my back wasnt as sore.

Its so painful at times.

Speak to your gp and see what they advise

Go to a good Physio , sit up straight on a ball, do your pelvic floor exercises. Lie on the side that isn't sore and put a pillow tween legs keep sore leg out straight . It will ease hopefully. Please see a good Physio x

I'll make an appointment on Monday if it's still bad and I'll try a warm bath tomorrow.

Will the GP send me to a physio? I can't afford to pay privately.

hector did it go away after you had your baby?
