Blood tests have come back, 'Borderline menopausal.' Does anybody know what that actually means please?

Does anybody know what that actually means please?

Also, they've come back that I'm very anaemic, but there's no surprise there. The GP has prescribed iron tablets - will these be different/better than Floradix, which is what I usually take?

Thanks.

Hormone tests are not conclusive, I was told, as they fluctuate during the day.
I hadn't had a period for 5 years, but when I came off HRT , waited 3 months, and still had no period, the results came back " menopausal".
Not post-menopausal as I expected at 58. Hmm

If you have been missing peiods and then had a really heavy one that goes on for too long, that can be a sign of what is called the perimenopause.

Can't help with the iron supplements as never had them.

Thank you. I haven't been missing periods - have v heavy ones and the last few were only a couple of weeks apart.

Will google the peri-menopause. Thanks again.

Fibroids can cause both long and prolonged bleeding and can give rise to anaemia.

Has anyone ever tried to establish WHY your periods are so heavy?. If they are heavy and prolonged its not altogether surprising you have become anaemic. I would be asking for a referral to a gynae for further evaluation, such problems are often outside a GPs remit and some can mess around in complete ignorance.

It usually happens in your 40s. My periods were regular but lighter and every 23 days instead of the 28 days on the dot. I was lucky.
Others have lots of debilitating hot flushes, which I did not get either .

My DD had an early peri -menopause and was diagnosed by testing the FSH - folicular stimulating hormone which was way too high meaning she was not ovulating, but she also had a painless cyst on one ovary which took 6 weeks to cure itself. She had those signs I mentioned in my earlier post. She was and still is treated by a gynae.

Thank you both.

The bloodtest and a scan are the first steps in looking at the heavy periods. They have been bad for years but I've only just dragged myself to the GP, so I have no complaints re the GP. I'm a veggie too, so have pretty much always been anaemic anyway tbh.
