I found a lump on my breast on Thursday evening, been to the Dr and I'm waiting on the referral to the breast clinic coming in the post. I am very anxious, need some hand holding.

Holding your hand.

Hand holding from me.

I went through the same earlier this year so know how you are feeling. I was utterly terrified and it was awful waiting for my appointment. We're you referred within within the 2 week rule? I was but this is nothing to be alarmed about. My doctor explained that they refer any breast lump urgently, it's not an indicator that your gp definitely thinks its cancer.

I had to have an ultrasound (no mammogram as apparently if you're under 40, the breast tissue is too dense to provide accurate results at this stage) and thankfully my lump was nothing to worry about and it's since disappeared.

Try to keep busy and please don't Google Wink.

I've had quite a few lumps checked.

As I'm sure you know, it's most likely nothing, but you have to check. You've done the right thing.

You should get a referral through quickly. In my area you attend an outpatient clinic at the main hospital. Someone will look at and feel your lump and other areas of both breasts, ask you about medication and your menstrual cycle, and you may have an ultrasound or some sort of aspiration, where they take a little fluid for analysis. You'll probably have to go back a few weeks later for your results. This was my experience each time anyway.

Take a book and a friend if you want support on the day. I always seem to be there a couple of hours. Keep an eye on the lump in the meantime.

We're here to support you too.

Oh blizy pet xx I know how scary this is. Push push push for an appointment at the breast clinic. You know your body has been through so much stress and changes over the past few years. Fingers crossed the letter comes through quickly - feck the handholding, Wine and a manly shoulder punch x

blizy · 06/08/2013 22:05

Thanks for the reassurance, it does help a little. meatyfeet the dr didn't mention anything about the 2 week rule, I was told the referral would take 2-3 weeks.

The lump is quite small, about pea sized but it is very hard and doesn't move around. I am hoping it is nothing but things never, ever seem to work out for me.

Im 38+5 pregnant first baby.my lump appeared at the start of the first trimester and gradually became bigger.i was referred to the breast clinic and they did a biopsy.stuck a needle in my breast and took a sample of the lump out.results came and it was nothing to worry about.called fibro something blah blah when milk ducts are blocked or something. I still have this lump and if it doesnt go away after i give birth the surgeon will remove it.

Reastie · 07/08/2013 07:16

Hopefully you will be seen very soon Flowers

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/08/2013 13:10

hello - would you like some hand holding on the tamoxifen thread ? we know what it's like (the waiting/anxiety) and can reassure and ply you with distractions...

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/08/2013 13:12

link here !

mignonette · 07/08/2013 13:17

I've had several ultrasounds, mammograms (which my tissue was too dense for even though I'm late 40's)and several biopsies. I got to what I thought was the end of the line in that there were no more tests they could do and was sure that it'd be bad news. It wasn't.

However i know my experience doesn't mean that you will have the same and that your mind may be conjuring up all kinds of scenarios and reading bad news into everything that happens. I had an urgent referral as I had bleeding from a nipple and lumps. I'm still not convinced I am clear as still have bleeding but have to accept what they say. I do understand how hard it is to feel safe.

Good luck. I am hoping you have the best kind of news. There are folks here who will be a tower of strength for you so please use them.

Reastie · 11/08/2013 16:18

I had this earlier this year.
Was referred quickly, at the appointment they had a physical check and then because they were suspicious they sent me on for a scan
Apparently I have very noduley breasts which just happen to give me quite a lot of pain

I hope it's something innocent for you too

pepperquip · 11/08/2013 18:25

I too had a lump that sounds similar to the one you describe. Mine turned out to be a fibro adenoma - harmless and easily removed in day clinic.
Hope yours is the same x

Myliferocks · 11/08/2013 18:34

I found a lump in my breast back in July. My GP referred me to the breast care clinic as every lump has to be referred where we live. I was supposed to have an appointment within 2 weeks but when they rang me to arrange my appointment it went to 3 weeks as we were going on holiday.
I had a mammogram and an ultrasound.
Mine has been diagnosed as fibrocystic breast disease/condition.
I was advised to take evening primrose oil, cut down on caffeine and dairy and make sure I wear a good supporting bra as well as a supportive top at night.
I don't think I've ever been so scared as the day I found the lump.
Handholding here from me too!
