Any doctors about? Just removed a Romanian tick from dp's back, reassure us, please!

Reckon dp picked it up on Tues from Sovata, which is near(ish) to the Hungarian border. He got home this morning, and tonight I've spotted, and removed it.

Of course googling is never good, and now he's connecting a stiff neck earlier, and struggling to cool down, and I want to be able to reassure him, but at the same time am equally concerned!

Is it worth trying to get hold of the doctor tomorrow? Out of hours are pretty pants, but at the same time Romania is a hot spot for infectious ticks

I'm not a doctor - but DH had Lyme's Disease from a tick bite. You need a blood test to check for it - but it won't kill him 'out of hours' Smile.

I think I'd make a GPs routine appointment and ask for a blood test to reassure yourselves.

I would definitely get him checked out. My youngest DS is away on a trip part of which they travelled through Romania and Hungary. He had to have vaccinations against a tick borne disease - not Lymes but something to do with encephalitis ).

Is there a circle where the tick bit?
My DH has been bit by two at one point. He went to the GP and had a massive dose of antibiotics for I think 3 weeks.
Book an appointment with out of hours GP.

*bitten, sorry

I believe it's a good idea to keep the tick for investigation if necessary. Whilst you're waiting to see GP, keep an eye on the site of where it bit to see if there's any development (take photos for comparison?). Scary, but thankfully you're taking early action.

my DC has had several ticks from different places and we haven't always been able to get the head out cleanly. Wash the spot with alcohol - hand sanitiser or use any strong drink. That will kill any bacteria. It's not an emergency unless they develops symptom.

Thsnk you, I was a bit worried last night! Dp phoned the out of hours this morning and because the symptoms are similar to his hay fever symptoms and the area he's picked it up he's been told to go to hospital. Really lucky it's only 10 mins walk up the road! Dp's friend is in a ziploc bag, which is in a clip lock tub jn the freezer Neither illness sounds pleasant and he's not arguing after becoming quite ill after a mosquito bite out there a few years ago.

Bite site has gone down after loads of germoline overnight, he has a second red mark on the small of his back that I'm wondering is a second bite where it's either dropped off or been knocked off due to the position.

Let's see how the hospital trip goes.

Loving the multi-layered security precautions taken with the "friend" *broomsticks" - exactly what I would have done! I hope all goes well and that your DP will be given a clean bill of health.

Was not having it escape! He spent Saturday morning at A&E, he has a dx of lyme. Heavy dose of abs from for 2 weeks, he's a bit spaced out atm. Nasty critters.
