dd2 had febrile convulsion - beware of this heat.

dd2 ( 13 months) was unwell all last week with a virus - cold symptoms, a rash, on and off temperature - the GP said it was nothing to get het up about. By Friday she seemed fine but that afternoon she had a febrile convulsion : was eating her tea when suddenly went really cold and started shaking , her lips went blue, hands and feet went blue and icy cold, teeth chattering and whole body trembling. The worst thing was her facial expression, she was looking at me like she was confused and in pain. She was so cold but when I took her temp it was 39. She became drowsy and listless. I was panicking like you wouldn't believe.

So, long story short, went to A& E, she was seen and basically the Doctor said she had overheated that afternoon ( we had been outside for quite a while) and that, combined with the virus , had precipitated the convulsion. Her temp did eventually go down ( only after both calpol and nurofen) so she didn't have to stay in overnight.

She is fine now, though off her food and clingy. But just beware of the heat all those with little children. I feel so awful that she absorbed so much heat and it affected her so badly. I am going to be extremely careful from now on.

how awful for you, that sounds very scary. Hadn't even considered you could get htem in heat. i had one when i was a baby but it was jan and i had a temp so mum wrapped me up - i presumed that it was more likely in the cold as the temptation is to wrap up.

Hope dd is feeling better now.

We had an experience similiar to yours yesterday but not nearly as bad thank goodness.

Ds off food and bottles, listless, temp of 38. would only have cuddles, not wanting to be put down and shaking. We had to do the tepid baths, syringing fluids and calpol. Thankfully his temp lowered a bit and we put him to bed in just a nappy.

THis weather is not good for babies at all. I haven't been outside today at all with ds, he's only had a nappy on and I've plyed him with fluids.

I'm so pleased your dd is ok now, and I certainly won't be taking the heat for granted anymore.
