I feel so upset

I feel so upset about the way I was treated by my consultant today, I feel like he thinks that I've been over reacting.

For the past 8-9months I have been experiencing abdominal pain it not there all the time it just comes and goes and when I bend over I feel pain/pressure in my lower abdomen. At first they thought that my kidney was in the pelvis but my ct scan came back fine my kidney is slightly twisted but that is normal. The only thing that showed up was one of my spinal discs is wearing away.

So the consultant has told me to ignore the pain. I feel so upset that he told me this I feel like he thinks I'm lying about the pain :(

"Ignore the pain" Shock really? That is awful "advice". Can you go back to your GP? Is she/he someone you can talk to and discuss other options/referrals? Have you had any bloods done?

welshgirly · 01/08/2013 17:59

Yeah had loads of bloods done, two ultrasounds and a ct scan which have all shown nothing

I have chronic pain too and was told last year that I'd just have to live with it. Finally cried at gp who's sent me for a second opinion - seeing a surgeon tomorrow. So - go to your GP and tell them that you want a second opinion! You deserve that much.

I will go back to my go next week to see what he suggests

Good luck. Do not be tempted to take the consultants advice and ignore the pain!

Very dismissive. If someone has that little compassion why would they choose to go into medicine I wonder? I would ask the doctor if he can refer you to another consultant. Or at the very least, if there isn't amy further help a consultant can really offer, then a pain clinic.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 01/08/2013 18:48

A disc that's wearing away can be very painful. A referral to a pain clinic is definitely a good idea even if the consultant can offer more help.

Thank you all for your advice. I will go and see my gp next week. My mum had ovarian cancer and suffered for years with abdominal pain before it was diagnosed so i feel there is even more of a reason for me to find out whats causing the pain.

My disc prolapse did give me a low pelvic type of pain as well as severe back pain. Bit unusual but that was my experience. Ask to see a neurosurgeon. They can assess the situation and advise.

Good luck.

I have no knowledge of your PMHX but could endometriosis be possible? Can be very difficult to diagnose on USS or CT - usually laparoscopy. Who did you see general or gynae?
