Really embarressed to be posting this, but here goes.

I am absolutely riddled with the bloody thing. I've always been prone when on AB's or pregnant, but a pessary or the oral tab usually takes care of it.

This outbreak though, has really been something else, and it's really getting me down now. I've had it since the end of May. I was on AB's for a mouth ulcer, and at the end of the course i noticed i had thrush. I went and bought Canesten duo, and it did get rid, for a couple of days. Then it seemed to come back with a vengence, so i went to my GP, who went through my history and said that i really needed a heavy dose of meds for it to clear once and for all.

She gave me a tablet to take once every three days for 6 days and then weekly thereafter. I'd just started taking the weekly ones when i had dental work done which left me with a broken jaw. Because of that, the dentist put me on three different types of AB's, and within a day or so of starting them the thrush was back with an absolute vengence. I was on the AB's for just over three weeks. Once i'd finished them, about a month or so ago now, i went back to my GP and explained what had happened and she gave me more oral tabs, a couple of pessaries and some cream, and it worked - got rid of the thrush finally.

Then i got my period and the thrush came back too. I'm now in agony - it's all the way round - front to back, and is so so sore. I've used a pessary and one oral tablet as well as the cream 3 times a day and it's just not going Sad Dont really want to bother my GP again as she said there not a lot that can be done if i get resistant to the oral meds.

I'm eating lots of live natural yogurt and drinking those yakult thingies, wearing only cotton pants and changing at least twice a day. It's just so painful and i'm walking like John bloody Wayne. I'm getting married in 7 weeks and i really want to have rid of it by then.

What else can i do?

I used to get it loads. Then i gave up wheat because it caused me bloating, ibs etc and since then have not got thrush at all! Worth a try! Its not as bad as you think as you can get gluten free pasta etc. Garlic oil and coconut oil are also natural anti fungals. You can also get capsules of bacteria (optibac and other brands).

I would also ask your gp to swob you to id the culpit just incase its something else causung it.

I have the same problem, I was advised to cut down on the amount of sugar I ate - that was creating the yeast imbalance. I had a major choc habit mind you. Anyhow it did make a big difference. If you have a very sweet tooth it might be that Confused

I used to get this really badly years ago, before Cannestan Duo was available. I then read about and tried this: first a week of lower dose pessaries plus lots of cream, then a 500mg pessary every two weeks as a prophylactic. I did this for about a year i think. It completely cleared up and thankfully haven't suffered for years not. I found something printed to persuade my GP to prescribe.

Trouble is, all these quick fix treatments don't really help with bad thrush, just suppress it until it rears its ugly head again.

Oh, and anyone with bad recurrent thrush should really be tested for diabetes.

Ahhh, are you keeping your blood sugars under control? Thrush just loves a warm and sugary environment.

If you have a look at the last points on the link I sent it may be that you have another type of candida so you need to be swabbed and may need a different treatment. Do show the info to your GP as she sounds helpful, just perplexed! If your GP can't help do you have a diabetes nurse or doctor you can ask?

Really hope you get this under control and can enjoy your wedding.x

I had thrush that lasted a good 6 months. Finally got rid by taking daily itraconazole and acidopilus tablets. Basically the acidopilus tablets are like yakult but stronger.

I also drank a table spoon of organic cyder vinegar twice a day. I diluted it with a glass of water. I cut down heavily on my sugar intake.

Hope you get it sorted. reaccuring thrush is horrible.

Oh thank you so much, both Smile

The link you posted totally makes sense and i'll print it off to show my GP.

Are the acidopilus tablets available widely or only on perscription?

My blood sugars have been a bit all over the place - very high, despite me keeping to a good diet, and i really do try and limit my sigar intake.

I got mine from Holland and Barrett. There were ones that were in like a sweet form (like love hearts) and ones that were more like capsules - I had them. They are about £20.00.

I also did a few vaginal douches with the acidophilos (sp.) and cyder vinegar. I know some tell you not to because of risk of infection but I was really desperate.

Get back to your Dr and mention about the itraconazole or if they have any other suggestions. I felt like you too and would attend my appointment and say "me again. Sorry" she then put me in my place and said that is what she is paid for.

It really is allconsuming and almost obsessive but you can get it sorted.
