was it a different sun cream to normal

soapbox · 09/06/2006 22:49

Give him some piriton.

liath · 09/06/2006 22:50

Lukewarm bath then calamine lotion & some piriton - sounds like an allergy!

he has used it all week and been mostly o.k , slight rash on his arm one day. but, i vaguely remember a paddling pool, suncream combination making a mess of his skin once before...not sure now.
he has hayfever aswell and his skin was itchy alot last year.
but, he looked fine before this tonight. it's not something to call a doctor for though yet is it, do you think?

If he has eczema please don't use calamine, it dries the skin further.

3 hours in the paddling pool... uhm, I was about to suggest your child was having an allergic reaction to suncream (most eczema children are very sensitive to them) but... now I notice you said 3 hrs, I think it is likely that he has been over exposed to sun rays and therefore sunburned rather than having an allergic reaction.

i was asking dh to get out (he was in it too the nut) and as usual he wasn't takin any notice. his chest doesn't look very redbut his backs a mess, i can see a couple of white spots on it too.

if he is sunburnt, other than the risk of skin cancer of course ,do i need to worry?
i could kill dh, he has conveniently gone to bed and gone deaf Angry

my ds had this earlier in the week as I'd put on a new suncream.I'd stupidly forgotten that he reacts to most suncreams.I gave ds antihistamine and put hydrosortisone cream on the worst itchy bits.

The cream that suits his skin (very atopic) is called Bergaderm and used to be called proderm.

If it's mostly at the back it seems like sunburns. I wouldn't worry about cancer unless you were doing the same all the time. I remember being sunburnt to the point of skin peeling off when I was a child in every holiday, and so far no sign of cancer, but yes, it it very uncomfortable.

Does he have eczema? if not, try the calamine lotion or at least some Sudocrem.
