so i have a really sharp stabbing pain in my chest right under left breast where bra band would lie. it feels like a bad stitch, hurts more if i breathe in deeply or lie on my back. i have had this before and put it down to heartburm but now dont think it is. was going to see gp tomorrow - anyone know what it could be?

Might be costochondritis.
Call 111 anyway, better safe than sorry

InkleWinkle · 28/07/2013 20:34

Could be gallstones.

But maybe not so you should really go & get it checked. Can you get a lift to a&e?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 28/07/2013 20:39

Oh bloody hell, there was a thread about this ages ago that told me what the name for this is! I get it quite a lot - first got it as a teen and thought I was having a heart attack. I just can't remember what it was called. Not costochondritis anyway. How frustrating that I can't remember!

Kangeroorustle · 28/07/2013 20:52

I get a similar pain and was been worried about it for years. Then I put my finger on the correct search to use to try to work out what it was for me:'popping' (the sensation when you take a deep breath and it improves).

I reckon I have 'precordial catch syndrome' (not dangerous in any way just a pita - supposed to wear off as you grow up iirc - hasn't in my case).

This might not be what you have OP obviously!!!

Don't mess around with chest pain that affects your breathing. Can you drive yourself or get a taxi to a walk in centre? They should be open till 10. They will then refer to you A&E if they think it is something really serious.

reckons nothing to worry about - probably lung membranes rubbing together

I get this a lot, had a chest x-ray just in case last year but nothing showed up and GP said the same as yours, probably membranes touching. It is scary though isn't it.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/08/2013 00:17

Kangaroorustle: that's what it was, yes! Precordial catch syndrome!

prob too late now, but i find with heartburn/chest pains, head needs to b above, so lie down propped up with pillows, period/tummy, legs need to b above, so pillow under legs.

My husband had bad chest pain once. Took him to A&E & they hooked him up to monitors. Checked for heart attack & blood clot & X-rays . They said it probably was the lining if the lungs rubbing together. He said it was very painful. He got strong painkillers.
