Can anyone give me adivise on dentists?

I need to find a decent dentist as the one I had before was a nightmare. However, I'm thinking that it might be better if we get private insurance than try desperately to get onto an NHS one (as you have to pay a considerable amount for treatment & check ups anyway).

Does anyone here use Den Plan? Dh has no fillings and I have three. We have two children. Any advice?

We have Denplan and have just put kids on it as our dentist's stopped doing kids on NHS. They do an assessment based on present age and condition of teeth to determine your level of premium. What do you want to know ?

Thanks for your reply. What sort of cost is it per month (is there a sliding scale?)

The scale is determined by the condition of your teeth at sign up, judged by specific criteria iirc. I had a root filling but otherwise my teeth were ok and got put on the same scale as dh who had a generally poorer condition. Not sure if there are different types of cover now or just the one - we get checkups, hygienest, xrays, non cosmetic work and overseas emergency cover included but have heard of others on here who may have more restrictions. Currently pay just over £13 each per month and £10 ish for both kids.

Right - thanks for that. I phoned the dental practice and they said that if my husband and I sign up as private patients they will treat our dds for free. How much extra do you have to pay if you need a filling? I was told fillings cost £88 for half an hour of work regardless of what you have done (I was pleased about this as I don't want any more mercury fillings).

We don't as it covers all non-cosmetic treatment like fillings, extractions, x-rays, preventative stuff like fissure sealant for ds.

Oh right, that sounds reasonable then. Thanks for your advice Smile

What is fissure sealant btw?

Fissure sealant is a synthetic coating they can put on permananent teeth (in ds' case his back adult molars which are emerging atm) to help prevent decay in areas which are awkward to brush.
