Is this concerningly high blood pressure? heat related?

Having passed out in street yesterday (which I put down to sunstroke) I have taken it easy. I had a poor night and am a bit dizzy (as lots of people seem to be in this heat). A friend said it could not have been sunstroke if I was not sitting in sun and had been drinking and to be fair I had been inside until that moment. She suggested I have blood pressure checked as it could have been due to low bp and I know I usually have low bp and sometimes bang on target bp. So I stopped at chemist and they said bp was 145 over 101 (or 100 can't remember) and then 138 over 101 which is on high side. How high is it? Do you think I need to see GP or just plough on at present. Thanks for your thoughts.

You should see your gp with readings like that.

Yes you need to see your GP. Your systolic bp (top number) isn't too bad but your diastolic is a bit high. You should at least be monitored. Lots of factors can affect it but it is worth getting it checked out IMO (I'm an hcp)

Ok thanks. Will go to see them. It will takeover a week for non emergency appointment so hopefully wont keel over before then. Thanks v much.

You're welcome. Try not to worry, plenty of people are walking around with much worse bp readings but I would be mildly concerned monitor you if you we're my patient :)

and monitor you Blush

thanks. my mum says i should get seen urgently tomorrow now so will see if i can wangle an apptment. Fat and over 40 in the heat is what I suspect I will hear - not like I don't know what I should be doing to sort. Thanks once again.

Sorry my post was abrupt, but my 3 yo woke up as I was posting.

My bp was around 150 over 110 whilst on medication and would spike, but always over 100 (bottom figure).

Please try and not worry.

Yes it's high. Anything over 140/90 is considered too high. With some medical conditions even that is way too high.
It may have been a one off because you were stressed, bu you need it investigated.
Perhaps it's a good time to look at your lifestyle and health risks, as over weight and over 40 also puts you at increased risk of diabetes (sorry to be the doom and gloom merchant).
Hope it all goes well at the gps

I read that when the body is too hot the BP reduces to cool down, and when cold increases to warm it up.Hmm
Your BP is not dangerously high- just a bit above what the norm says it should be.
Fainting does usually mean low BP. What was your normal BP as you said it had always been low?

The systolic - one above- is variable according to how energetic, nervous, angry etc when it surges. The lower diastolic does not change to the same degree. But over 90 is considered undesirable.
