How is this even possible? - stress incontinence

So I've got a slightly prolapsed bladder since having Ds2, two years ago - a cystocele I think they call it. Anyway when I run, sneeze, jump or cough I leak urine which is blooming annoying but I am the process of awaiting treatment so fingers crossed it won't be a permanent solution.

What I don't understand is why I can empty my bladder very thoroughly - sitting forward to pass water and even physically pressing my bladder through my vaginal wall - yet still manage to soak myself a minute later if I cough. It seems horrendously unfair :( I have a cold at the moment and the added incontinence it brings is truly vile :(

I've tried pelvic floor exercises and cones (which just fall out) but nothing seems to be working so far. I'm so hoping ill get an appointment for surgery soon!

I only thing I can think of is you arent actually emptying your bladder completely.

You could ask your go for a prescription for medication while you are waiting. I use Vesicare.

You have to remember that your kidneys are constantly producing urine and it is almost impossible to completely empty your bladder, so there will always be something there. Your cystocele and your leakage (stress incontinence) both have the same cause - pelvic floor muscle weakness caused by childbirth.
Over half of new mums will experience either or both of the problems you have.
If you want to know why you are not getting the advice you should get then a new book 'The Kegel Legacy' will explain it! Just search the web. It also explains the simple and effective solution that most doctors won't mention - because basically they just love getting out their scalpels!!!

Sorry! had problems with the posting there!!

I have had my perineum repaired, with prolapse (rectocele) surgery and that stopped the tampons falling out!

The pubococcygeus is further up - it is the sling between your tail bone and pubic bone, with gaps for your urethra, vagina and rectum. You might be able to feel it if you like down, put your finger up and squeeze (don't know if that is recommended, but I found it once, after reading lots of anatomy pages, and was quite amazed). It is worthwhile getting to know which muscles are which and exercising and learning to relax them properly, as they affect your bladder and bowels as well as holding up your insides, and you need to do this whether you have surgery or not.

When you have got the hang of this, it is well worth going on to improving posture as it is all connected and your internal pelvic muscles will work better if your other internal structure is working well, and this will help protect your lower back and spine and make you look good!
