Well apart from dvt ... what else could this be?

I've got a pain deep inside my leg, midway between my knee and hip. It's been coming and going for the last couple of weeks, but since yesterday it's been here almost permanently, most of the time as a dull ache but occasionally it hurts so much that my leg buckles under me. I'm going to the GP's on Thursday and I really don't think it can be dvt but what else could it be?

Miaou, at the risk of sounding barmy, why not take an aspirin now and in the morning? Can't do any real harm, and it might just reassure you slightly.

Feistybird · 06/06/2006 21:06

well you must promise if you get any other symptoms to phone NHS direct at least.

Miaou · 06/06/2006 21:07

Great idea!!!!!!!!!!!

(No aspirin though Grin)

I was going to ask if it might be some kind of muscular pull thing but then read honeybunny's post about being a muscles-and-joints lady so I guess it isn't...

Please get it checked, miaou - I know A&E/GP/hosp appointments are a PITA but just do it, OK? Smile

Miaou · 06/06/2006 21:14

ooooh now I've worried everyone, sorry sorry ....

Jan I will monitor it and I will be on the blower if I'm at all worried. I'll see if I can get to the gp tomorrow. Promise Smile

Miaou, it is an unusual place for a DVT to develop. Sorry I have not read all of the thred but if you had a dvt in your thigh (unlikely as the veins are bigger and widder) you would probably feel buring pain lower down into your calf. and also swelling etc.
What I would say is that wearing sandlel and other inapporpriate foot wear along with balancing a little one on you hip all day can caus a variety of muscular problems all up you legs and back. Miaou you have my number if you want a wee chat.
PS in my motherly capacity you now the worrying symptoms to look out for if you are concerned about a dvt, impaired sensation impaired circulation shortness of breath etc

Miaou · 07/06/2006 11:41

Aw thanks for that chapsmum, read it this morning just before I went to the gp's. She said it is almost certainly muscular as I have no other associated symptoms eg swelling, and my circulation is fine, but to go back if I am at all worried.

Smile

no problem, your gp sounds lovely! am glad everything is ok.

Miaou · 07/06/2006 13:27

Smile Yes she is really nice, didn't make me feel like I was wasting her time.

dh pointed out that I am doing loads more driving than I used to, and that could be having an impact. It's my accelerating leg Wink

btw the sandal bit was a bit of flippancy on my part - you've seen my dress sense, my sandals are of the lentil-weaving, jesus type! Doubt they'd cause any probs with circulation WinkGrin

rofl!!!
poor petal you are lovely!
but any tyoe of sandle with our a foot arch support can cause problems. so make sure thoses jesus sandles have an orthopoedic instep!!!

Miaou · 07/06/2006 13:33

My granny would love em Wink

I must admit I had something very similar and was also worried it could be a DVT because mine started after I got off a three hour flight and then kept coming and going all through my holiday, was made worse when I crossed my legs which I make every effort not to do now but then when I got home the first thing I did was read up on DVT's and was not too alarmed because my pain was at the top to the knee not the calf area.

My auntie had a DVT and it always worries me. My circulation is quite poor too and always seem to have problems with my legs aching.
