How long and heavy are your periods? Sorry TMI!

Personal question I know, but I'm anaemic and Dr thinks it could be because of heavy periods. However, I realised I don't know whether my periods would be considered heavy because I don't know what other ladies normally go through.

My periods generally last 7+ days and I have to wear night-time pads for at least the first 3 days and have to change them quite often. How "normal" is this?

Super heavy and erratic. Have had ultra sounds, blood tests, all manner of tests. Unfortunately I've been classified as just one of those things.

I'm on noristorene (sp?) for 3 months. It's a pretty hardcore progesterone medication. I was told I wouldn't bleed and it would all be fine. My pmt and cycle were normal my bleeding was the same as it ever was. Massive clots, towel and tampon, changing every few hours.

Doesn't feel like one of those things but I guess it really is. Oh, and apparently I can't be perimenopausal as I'm too you ShockHmm

I was first prescribed Ferrous Fumerate, but it was awful and I thought I had norovirus or something. I'm supposed to be taking Ferrous Gluconate every other day. Dr told me to up iron intake in my diet and through Spatone sachets, I'm just really crap at remembering.

I know I have a level of 10.1 but not sure if that is for haemoglobin or something else...rubbish at listening to drs, can you tell?!!

To the last three respondents,

Any changes to what you've come to regard as normal in terms of flow should always be checked out.

Many GPs are not great when it comes to this sort of problem and tend to solely treat the symptoms rather than look for the underlying cause by referring you to a gynae. I would be asking for a referral now in any case to a gynae, the cause of the heaviness of bleeding needs to be properly determined.

Mine are similar to the above, changing ultra tampon and nighttime pad every 1.5 hours, day one is usually ok days 2 and 3 terrible. No clots though. I flood through the night and have taken to putting a childs wee pad on top of the sheet so at least I don't have to change the bed. Iron is low so on tablets, not hitting the menopause yet - I'm mid forties - according to the blood results. I have several large fibroids and lots of small ones so look about 16 weeks pregnant which is now becoming uncomfortable.

I went to see the doctor about 3 years ago, and the doctor said I might start the menopause soon and if I could manage to just wait and see - I went back in March and told the doctor I had had enough so I went for another ultrasound which confirmed that the fibroids had grown and next week I should hopefully get my date for a hysterectomy (sp), which should happen before the end of the year! Can't wait.
