Abnormal Smear - Feeling up and down

domoarigato · 11/07/2013 13:14

Got result of moderate dyskyosis, coloscopy on Monday. I'll probably have LLETZ treatment if something can be seen. I have a new daughter and I just feel so up and down. I just know there's going to be a long wait and I hope this gets sorted.

Can't believe I've got this problem as ive only ever had 1 sexual partner, so if youve not been for a smear recently, then go, because unless youre a nun it can happen to anyone.

Has anyone else been through this and gone on to have a troublefree pregnancy? How long did you wait after the treatment. Just so worried about incressed 2nd trimester miscarriage risk. I suppose it depends on how much they take away. I hope I have clear smears after this too, as another treatment would delay trying to conceive again. We weren't going to ttc for another few years yet anyway.

Gosh I'm blabbering.

Try not to worry. Smears often are abnormal and in 6 months the are back to normal.
I had an abnormal smear but they forgot to let me know for 18 months - 20 years ago.
When I was eventually recalled and had a biopsy, the rim of the cervix was full of CIN 3 cells which I had removed and a little bit more to see how far it had spread. Everything was taken away, and all smears since then have been clear.
Good look.

I've no experience of this but I will bump for you and hope that someone comes along who can help
All the best Smile

malteserzz · 11/07/2013 16:12

X post, you didn't need the bump after all !

OrangeLily · 11/07/2013 16:12

I've had that and then gone back to normal with no treatment. A colposcopy every six months is all it takes to keep an eye on it. You will probably have a biopsy on Monday so take a sanitary towel as you may bleed a little afterwards and they tend to use funny coloured solutions to see the cells differently. Don't panic!

mrsravelstein · 11/07/2013 16:22

i had colposcopy for CIN1 changes 14 years ago. have had invitations to annual smears ever since. a couple were abnormal when done in pregnancy or soon after birth but have never needed any further treatment, and i got the HPV tests too which were all clear which is reassuring, so worth getting them done/asking for the results if you haven't already. hope all goes well.

I've had two mildly abnormal smears in the last year (one abnormal, then a normal six months later and then recently another abnormal one). I ended up having 3 colposcopies as my cervix is difficult to see. At the first two they didn't do anything (gynae proposed doing a LLETZ even though he couldn't see anything - I declined in favour of monitoring). At the most recent one, they took a biopsy which confirmed CIN1, so I'm going to stick to monitoring for now.

The colposcopies were not the most pleasant experience I had ever had, but were fine and I actually found it quite fascinating to see my cervix massively magnified on a TV screen! The biopsy didn't hurt (I got some mild cramping a little while later) and I had next to no bleeding or "fall out" from the solutions they use.

I had CIN3 about 16 years ago. Had cone biopsy & LLETZ. After that had yearly smears for 3 years. Then back to 3 yearly smears. I've had 3 dc since& currently no4!

You will be fine.

Thanks guys. I'm 5 year late on this and have been reading horror stories. Has anyone left it longer?

My period just started! Will have to rebook. Do you think one or two weeks will make a difference? I mean to my health... I know it'll affect my sanity.

OP posts:
digerd · 13/07/2013 19:26

What do you mean you are 5 year late on this?

domoarigato · 13/07/2013 19:39

I just mean I was called up for a smear 2011, but I had a baby. I dont mean I had an abnormal smear then have waited 5 years for a colposcopy. Goodness no! Is that what you thought I meant?

OP posts:
domoarigato · 13/07/2013 19:41

I think I meant 2 years late from when I was called up in 2011.

Do you mean you had an abnormal smear result 2 years ago or you were called for your first smear but put it off due to being pregnant?
Well, there are pills that will stop your period temporarily. Have forgotten what they are called, but it was a Thread recently not wanting a period on holiday, I think. Perhaps in Chat?

I'd call the clinic and tell them you have your period and see what they say.

digerd · 13/07/2013 19:51

After forgetting to let me know for 18 months that I had abnormal cells, and they calling me, everything went very quickly.

knackeredmother · 13/07/2013 19:52

I had CIN 3, needed a LLETZ under GA as it was so extensive. I had my dd a year after ( in fact I had my second 6 monthly smear in the early stages of pregnancy) and ds 2 years after dd. Both my pregnancies were absolutely fine. I was referred for consultant led care initially with dd but they said they was no real risk and discharged me after the first appointment.
I'm still on yearly smears and all is well touch wood.

domoarigato · 13/07/2013 20:27

Hey digerd, I meant I was called for a smear 2 yrs ago, but put it off due to ttc and pregnancy. Knackered, thanks for this, I was worried about a letz procedure affecting future pregnancy.

I've managed to rebook my colposcopy for tomorrow. Since I got my results however I feel like I've been bombarded with letters about it. I've got 2 of the same letter from my hospital stating the same thing which I put down to human error. Then I got a letter from my gp surgery saying to go. Not exactly helping me to keep calm!!

knackeredmother · 18/07/2013 21:33

Good luck, it really isn't bad. I just realised after rereading my post that O actually got pregnant 6 months after my LLETZ not a year.
It will all be fine. Good luck.

domoarigato · 19/07/2013 12:39

Hi, I've just had it done and it was not a walk in the park. The anaesthetic injections hurt and during the main part, he prodded me and I jumped! It wasn't painful, just a shock. Probably not the best time to have a jolt when he's got a probe up me. I asked if I'd caused damage down there and he said no. Fingers crossed for results. I really think though that I might request a GA if I have to do it again though. When it was all done it was then that I couldn't stop crying. I was so glad my husband was there to greet me!

You have my sympathies domoarigato. I had a colposcopy yesterday and it wasn't nice. The doctor took a biopsy to confirm his strong suspicion that I do have cancer. I have a ten day wait now for the results and a plan for treatment. I think this is going to be the worst bit, the not knowing.

Flowers and umumsnetty hugs for you.
