I'm completely stressed, doing ivf cycle atm and need a bit of a helping hand, really.
Friend recommended hypnotherapy but I am skint so will pay but only if other people can attest that it's worth the money, iyswim.
Also, if you know any good hypnotherapists I'd love a personal recommendation. I'm in Oxford.
TIA
A Very Stressed-Out Pruni

do you need the hypnotherapy to de-stress pruni? Sorry if i'm being thick! I had reflexolgy when I did iui. Have you thought about reiki too? Sorry, don't know any hypnotherapists. Good luck Smile

I see, well I hope someone can recommend one. Have you thought about a relaxation cd? I've never used one though I think I have one knocking about. Would you like it if I can find it?

Pruni,I had hypnotherapy a while ago for weight loss. Initially I thought it was great but haven't listened to the cd I was given as part of the price £130 for two sessions Shock .Believe it or not I haven't listened to it and that was about 3 months ago!!
I think it would have worked if I was an excessive eater ie. ate chocolate all day or something. But I'm not really.
I think you'd be better off with another type of alternative therapy to relax such as reiki or acupuncture. It hasn't worked for me at all.

Pruni · 04/06/2006 19:25

Oooh delgirl didn't see you rpost there!

i paid £60 for initial consultation and one full session, if you have the money it is definitely worth it. haven't used it for stress though. could you try counselling/relaxation via your gp to avoid costs?

DelGirl · 04/06/2006 19:28

i'll see if I can find it then, may take a while cos I don't think i've seen it since I moved 2 and a hlf years ago Smile

DelGirl · 04/06/2006 19:30

as if by magic, it has appeared on the shelf next to me. It's called Zen Garden, 'compositions to create the perfect mood for peaceful meditation & enlightenment' Smile.

I'll just email you.

Dh has had hynotherapy for his pain, I think it was semi-useful and is on my list of things to re-arrange for him since we've moved (ahem, six months ago!).

Would deffo try cheaper alternatives for relaxation first, I used to listen to a tape the hypnotherapist did for dh and fall instantly asleep! I could copy that for you with the hypnotherapist's permission, he is based in Suffolk so no good for a local consult, although I could ask him if he could recommend someone in Oxford?

Pruni · 04/06/2006 19:41

Trib that would be lovely xxP

Sorry you're feeling stressed out Pruni. I've had hynotherapy three times - two successful and one rubbish.

First time I had it was for infertility/stopping smoking. Initially I went to the woman to get rid of my fag/nicotene gum addiction but when I told her why I wanted to stop smoking/chewing (ie had been trying to get pg for three years) she told me she did hypnosis for infertility too. I was VV sceptical about this but she did a sort of 'combo session' ie relaxed me, made e imagine my baby somewhere in the ether and made me tell the 'baby' I had stopped smoking etc. and was now ready for the baby to arrive. I thought she was completely barking and actually snorted out loud with laughter a couple of times during the session. However, when I came out of that place I couldn't face smoking or gum and was pg the next month. Basically, the session made me very relaxed about getting pg - very confident. I felt even if I didn't get pg that month I would another which was a complete turnabout because I'd been a total stress bunny about the whole thing for three years!

Second time - I went back to her because I was evading a huge headline and wanted a kick up the bum. She diagnosed that I was stressed out about it, did a new routine on me and it was rollocks. Actually, maybe it wasn't - but it made me so relaxed about the whole thing that I didn't complete the commission for another four years...

Third time - I was referred by GP because of post-birth trauma after having pph with dd. This was a GP hypnotherapist on the NHS (check that out - it might be available in your area). He was brilliant and completely changed my life after only one session. However I should have gone back for follow up sessions as the job wasn't totally done.

I think smoking/baby and trauma sessions worked for me because I am hugely suggestable and basically an 'obedient' type of person. If you are the same I would go for it - esp if you can find someone who specialises in fertility/stress issues. The other thing which might be worth considering is acupuncture - I don't have any experience of it but it was next on my list when trying to get pg.

Sorry - this is a huge post but it's a subject close to my heart. I hope you find a solution to the stress and that the IVF is successful. And do check out the NHS options (you're in the UK aren't you?).

Pruni · 04/06/2006 19:58

thanks zippi
I am going to give it a go. I am quite suggestible, I think, and am quite curious about it anyway.
Hope it works too... Wink

Just come back to this to say: Job done - had three sessions and it is fantastic!
I feel like my old self again, and am very enthusiastic about the ivf (was sort of blocking it out before). I feel like I've had that first beer of the evening pretty much all the time.

Can highly recommend it!
