Pushing DS quickly, something at the back of my ankle went 'pop'

Something at the back of my ankle, presumably a tendon, went 'pop' a couple of days ago. I can still walk, often almost normally, but the occasional movement leaves me yelping with pain and the area throbbing for a bit. It also feels quite tight higher up the calf, a bit like it can do when you have had cramp.

Obviously its not bad enough to warrant an A&E trip for x-rays or whatever, and I strongly suspect all a GP would offer was painkillers and advise rest - as appointments are like rocking horse shit around here I won't bother taking one up which would be better for someone 'ill.'

However, does anyone know what I might have done? I thought tendon type injuries were excruciatingly painful and this isn't, although its certainly not 'right.'

Thanks!

Achilles' tendon? Like you hear of footballers doing. Can e quite sore.

The googling I did for that didn't quite match, I've also buggered up my Achilles before and it felt different so not convinced that's the problem.

Thanks though!

I'd go to GP or nurse, you probably need some type of support bandage & advice on how long to wear it etc.

I had crampy pain in calf couple of years ago & didn't rest it, ended up with partial torn calf muscle (ouchy), could hardly walk for about 2 weeks and had to rest (ie no strenuous walks/ no cycling/ exercise classes) for months.

Or if you really don't want to bother GP then good pharmacist could probably advise on some kind of support bandage.

Ibuprofen is best for helping heal.

Achilles would definitely be much more painful, IME.

Sparky, would taking ibuprofen just mask the pain and therefore make it possible for me to aggravate it further...?

And yes, when I hurt my Achilles it was a lot sharper and nastier!

Ibuprofen helps reduce inflammation so helps to heal it, need to take for several days to get full effects (according to last GP I saw).

If its twinging you definitely need to be careful with it to avoid further injury, go to Gp or get tubigrip style bandage from pharmacy (plus advice on size etc) for wearing when you have to walk a lot.

You don't want to tear it (if it isn't torn already), I honestly couldn't walk on mine without tubigrip for support when it tore.

Hope this helps.
