ongoing grumbling pain several weeks after coil fitting?

I had a copper coil fitted a fortnight ago. Overall I am really pleased with it - the fitting was much less bad than I expected and it's a huge relief to be able to relax about contraception (had a baby seven months ago and we really couldn't manage another pregnancy at the moment). I can't use hormonal methods.

I was pleasantly surprised that the 'period pain' immediately after the fitting was much less severe than I expected, really just mild cramping with light bleeding for a day or so. The only thing is that the mild cramping hasn't gone away. It's totally bearable - much less severe than the pain I get the first day of a period - and most of the time I'm not bothering with an painkillers for it, but it's a bit of a nuisance if it's going to continue indefinitely. Did anyone else experience this and find it faded eventually?

I think I must have quite a "sensitive" womb (sorry, sounds ridiculous!) as I've always had bad period pain, and also I was very aware of all the stretching/contracting both at the beginning of pregnancy and in the last few months.

It's not a pinching or sharp pain, which the leaflet warns about, so I don't think the coil has dislodged itself. It's just a sort of variable background grumbly crampy feeling all the time - a bit like the day before a period starts.

Any relevant experiences very gratefully received!

I had the copper coil fitted just over 3 months ago. Fitting was fine but had cramping almost everyday for about 7-8 weeks afterwards. Paracetamol and a hot water bottle as usual helped ease the pain. The cramping/pain has completely disappeared now and everything seems fine.

Stick with it if you can manage the pain, it'll settle down eventually. The nurse at my 6 week check said it can up to 6 months for everything to settle down fully for some women.

Thanks samesize. I am happy to put up with it for quite a while if necessary as my contraceptive options are a bit limited but we really need something reliable, it's been a huge weight off my mind to have it in. But I'm glad to hear you found the discomfort stopped eventually.

Funnily enough, I have just started bleeding, which is odd as my period is not due for at least another week (and my cycles are often long but never short). But I am still breastfeeding morning and evening so I suppose that might be why.
