I had to go to the GP as i have been suffering from random numbness in a couple of parts of my body. He checked my neck, all fine, have not had a recent accident or anything, he checked my eyes could follow a pen and he checked to see exactly where it is numb. He then said he would need to send me for a heads scan.

What are they going to be looking for? I am fed up with feeling so rubbish, this numbness is the final straw Hmm

Hopeful bump?

I suppose they would be looking for any lesions on the brain which might be causing the numbness.
Hopefully it will be nothing!

Numbness can be caused by a number of things so probably a simple explanation. The MRI ,I assume it is an MRI? would be to just rule out lesions .

He didn't say it would be MRI but this what
assuming. So do you think he meant brain scan rather than head
scan?

Lesions sound unpleasant, I will step away from google. he ruled out trapped nerve because it is not just in one place.

Am no expert. Maybe if he said 'head' he means head as opposed to brain!

But what would they be scanning then? Your skull ?

Anyway,hope all is well.

He will be looking for any signs of MS I imagine.

olivo · 23/06/2013 15:59

Hmm, I wondered about MS but that is too scary to contemplate. Can't think why he'd want to look at my skull.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see and hope it goes away.

Thanks.

He will be looking for signs of demyelination, which affects the nerves ability to function. This can be a sign of MS.
