When I bend over from time to time water runs from my nose, it's not mucus just water, very runny and it is a bit salty. It just rushes out so quickly that it ran into my mouth once. I never thought much about it but today I googled it as it happened again.

It mentions an infection in the brain.

I'm terrified Sad

Should I be worried?

I only get hay fever in summer, not sure it's allergic rhinitis.

FoggyMorn · 24/12/2015 19:46

Realistically if you are well enough to type posts on mums net (and haven't had a head injury), and dont have a massive headache, it's very unlikely to be leaking out of your brain!

Relax, enjoy Christmas :)

GeeGee123456 · 18/02/2016 11:42

You have had this 4/5 times over a few months mine started this month February and I have had this daily!! Should I be worried??!!Sad

Marshy · 19/02/2016 08:43

Anyone with a serious brain injury or infection would have more symptoms than a runny nose!

Step away from Dr Google, calm down and maybe make an appointment with your GP I wouldn't bother

guidinglight · 21/02/2016 18:19

I've had a CSF leak - I spent 4 days horizontal, crying in pain and throwing up every time I moved. Go to your doctor if you're concerned but I think if it was anything serious, you would really know about it.

Boomingmarvellous · 22/02/2016 11:28

You have read you get a watery discharge from the nose and it's the fluid that surrounds the brain presumably? This only happens after a head injury and skull fracture.

Any infection of the brain (encephalitis or meningitis) and you would be very ill.

Any lastly it's sugary, not salty. So don't worry.

It's probably sinus or allergy based, but your go will confirm. Try not to have air fresheners in the home. They do it to me.

Hi,
I am 23 years old .
I Have been experiencing the same thing .
But it is happening more frequently recently, like today it happened to me twice.
Dr. Told me get CT and I did, the CT showed nothing and I dont have any allergies.
Also I have had maxillary sinus which has been treated. Could the cause be that?
Pls answer I'm freaked out 😢

Vafa · 04/05/2016 17:40

Also I broke my nose about 7 years ago

TeWaterBoy · 02/09/2016 06:43

That always happens to me after I go for a surf, salt water runs out my nose from the sea. sometimes it even takes day or two for the water to find it's way out, then it gushes out. That could explain why you also have salty water that comes out your nose Smile If you don't swim often then I would go to the doctor to check it out.

impulsive57 · 18/03/2017 18:37

I have watery drips also. I am definitely going to a Specialist, can be CFS. It can turn into worst consequences.

iMogster · 09/05/2017 14:43

I just watched a programme on tv where a woman had her nose smashed in an accident. She mentioned water coming out of her nose, she didn't have headaches or other symptoms. They did a CT scan and found she had 2 brain hemorrhages and couldn't do her nose reconstruction surgery.
I get water coming out of my nose on one side ever since my 2 sinus surgeries. I'm feeling really stressed about it now. I'm going to have the liquid checked. Google (I know) said CFS has salty taste. I'm worried the surgery tore a hole in the dura.

Titsywoo · 09/05/2017 14:45

I had it recently after a cold. Whatever cane out was bright orange. I thought brain fluid was coming out but it must have been my sinuses Grin.

NewStateswoman · 09/05/2017 14:57

Pop to A&E??? FFS. Hmm

maggiso · 09/05/2017 16:45

I get this. Its because one (or more) of my sinuses only drain properly into my nose when my head is in that position. Its a nuisance - but nothing worse. Its the way I am made (although perhaps running face first into something years ago may not have helped!). I've also had a CFS leak following sinus surgery- and that made me feel unwell and gave me the sort of headache that means you dare not move and certainly can't get up.
If this is your only symptom, and you have not had a head injury or sinus or back surgery, feel otherwise well - no headaches-no fever- I would not worry. However best to speak to your GP to get reassurance!

BigFatJerk · 09/05/2017 16:53

I have a leaky right nostril, its every time that i bend over and started after a lumbar puncture 18 months ago. I get a lot of headaches too but it has never worried me, i am still here, justGrin

PaDiNi · 10/03/2018 15:05

Hi there, yes very very old thread but wonder; has any of you gone to GP and was there anything serious?

Silvercatowner · 10/03/2018 22:07

Pop to A&E???

A&E in big northern city hospital yesterday - 10 ambulances queuing, ambulance workers looking after the patients they had brought in because the HCPs were too busy.

I'd hope if you presented at A&E you'd be triaged behind most other people and have an indefinite wait.

HeidiPie2 · 27/08/2018 01:54

I had major surgery (hysterectomy/oopherectomy etc) 10 months ago - I woke up with a bruised vertebrae on my neck - which is still painful now. I also had headache in one area in my head which immediately went away/came back depending on how I turned. But recently my right nostril and right ear have been leaking a clear - completely water like fluid when I bend down (or lie on one side for my ear). I have a very painful right side of neck - all the time. Concerned it may be CSF leak. But saying that - I remember having this a couple of years earlier too - only injuries I’ve had were running into a sloped ceiling full force - and flooring myself as head jarred backwards; and diving into a swimming pool (twice ) and hitting my head on the bottom of the pool twice as a child! Had concussion; then headaches for months. I get the impression that with CSF leaks old injuries can re-open any tears around base of skull/top of spine through pressure (like straining on loo or lifting etc) - or having a major surgery where they did something to my neck perhaps... Has anyone had CSF from similar injuries?

Your better starting your own thread than replying on this year's old one.

Akanshaxz · 17/02/2023 12:24

Hi! I after 10 year i am also going through water running out of my nose suddenly when i bend over. Could you please tell me is everything good with you or you've experienced anything because of the issue you mentioned 😐
