Just need a bit of reassurance! Had an ECG recently after having palpitations before I was pregnant, and forgetting to get it done before! Came up with a slight abnormality and referred to cardiology outpatients! Hadn't heard anything in over a week, chased yesterday and apparently it was marked as urgent, but hospital book in according to severity and could be 6-8 weeks! Anyone else had this where it's marked as urgent but doesn't seem to be urgent according to hospital?

Could it be an abnormality because I'm pregnant?Tried to get in touch with docs but going to be Monday now before they ring back! Trying to reassure myself that if it was really urgent it wouldn't be nearly three weeks before they got in touch?!

If you are under a consultant for your pregnancy, then speak to him or her. If not, then call your midwife and ask if you need to see an obstetrician, because most people with heart issues have consultant input. The ob will then probably get you fast tracked to cardiology.

The fact that the hospital are not rushing you in sounds positive, but sometimes things can slip through. Be pushy assertive.

Often referrals that the person who is doing the referral believes may be urgent are marked as "Urgent" when the referral is sent through, but it is then triaged by a specialist in that field as to whether or not it warrants an urgent appointment, or if it can wait for a routine appointment. It will certainly do no harm to phone up and check, as mistakes do happen, but please be reassured that this is common, and it is up to the consultant in that particular specialty to decide what is urgent. What may seem worrying to a GP or a specialist in one field, may be completely normal and common place to someone who deals with this kind of thing all the time. Hope all is well.
