We are trying for a baby so I don't want to take antihistamines. But my hay fever is becoming troublesome. Is it okay to take the steroid nasal sprays and the eye drops?

No medical background at all apart from Holby/Casualty so wont comment on drugs. But have you tried wiping some Vaseline under your nose? Maybe a slick of Chapstick? It's supposed to catch the pollen

Go and see your GP to discuss. I ended up being prescribed tablets and a nasal spray.

I got nasal spray. It was rubbish...

Benadryl. My GP said the first generation anti-histamines are fine. I took it with all three of my children and they all turned out perfect, naturally.

I've not had bad hay fever for a few years but we moved house in January and it always seems to be worse the first summer somewhere new. Doesn't help that there is loads of 'wild' grass round here which is my worst trigger.

Does Benadryl make you drowsy?

Hay max balm on nostrils.

There's a non steroid nasal spray on offer in Boots. Can't remember the ame, it began with P, but it states it is suitable for pregnant and breast feeding women and its non drowsy.

Hay Max

I was under an obstetrician (not literally) when I was preg with DS3. I had shocking hay fever and he told me that piriton was the safest antihistamine to take. It can make you drowsy though. I wouldn't take anything else until you've spoken to your GP as not all hay fever remedies are ok in pregnancy. The Vaseline trick is a good one. You can also have a look at the allergy uk website as they have a lot of useful tips. Good luck! I found the constant sneezing while pregnant a total PITA especially as my pelvic floor was shot to piecesBlush

I was told by my GP that anti-histamines with Loratadine as the active ingredient were fine in pregnancy. Also did a bit of googling which backed this up, including the NHS site

Happily and safely took this type of anti-histamines throughout both pregnancies and have two healthy, happy boys.
