beta blockers - do side effects wear off?

Have just been prescribed beta blockers (Bisoprolol) to regulate heart rhythm. Feeling very tired and slowed down (which I know is the point!) and just a bit down to be honest. Will these effects wear off or is it something I'm just going to have to learn to live with?

Lirael. Just seen your Thread and sorry you are experiencing tiredness on the Beta blockers. I'm surprised nobody has an answer for you.

I do not know how long these side effects last and will be different for everyone anyway. Have you taken your BP to see if it has gone down too low?

lirael · 18/06/2013 20:02

No I haven't - might be a good idea! Thanks Digerd. I'm very grateful for your support.

You're welcome. Smile

Side effects do wear off, yes.

BP 143/61 this morning, so bottom number definitely lower, but top a bit too high? Took it after I'd been up two hours and had breakfast.

BP should be taken before eating, depending on how large your breakfast was, digestion requires a considerable amount of energy and usually increases your BP and pulse.
However, it would normally increase the top number - systolic-, but not reduce the bottom -diastolic.

Your last BP rates were good and normal 134/77? The 143 is not worrying at all, it is the 61 which has reduced disproportionately.
I'd see GP about this . The medication might be the cause.

120/65 now, so better. Feel much less tired today too, so maybe things are settling down.

I have recently upped my dose of Atenolol to include 25 mg at night ( take 50 mg in the morning) and i felt very tired for a couple of weeks, but that has now worn off and am back to normal!!!

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 19/06/2013 14:04

Meant to say it is a betablocker as well.

lirael · 19/06/2013 15:23

Well I am only on 2.5mg once a day, so have no excuse!Grin

Glad to hear you are feeling more lively. The weather in SE is so warm and humid, that always saps my energy. We had 27 and sun and I was walking at snails pace, until I got to the fresher air of the open fields with my little dog at 3pm. No sun now but 26 degrees and no air movement in my garden, so stayed indoors.
I'm not on BBs so I have no excuse except my ageGrin

lirael · 19/06/2013 17:22

I hate the humid weather too - we used to live in Sussex and it always made me tired, even when I was younger. Get much less of it in the West Country - it's hot and humid today but there's also a breeze.

Just braved the shade at back of garden < there is a canal , trees and open fields beyond> and was fine. Decided to trim my little dog's coat and she was so good, despite 2 ducks only feet away. But I was not moving and was sitting most of the time.

We are threatened with thunderstorms on Friday Confused

lirael · 19/06/2013 19:07

Yes weather turning here from tomorrow too. Still no news of date of MRI, which I am taking as a good sign...
Have also found out that the hospital has a new MRI machine which is shorter and wider than the old ones. Don't laugh, but I even found the measurements on the web, put a tape measure down and lay beside it - quite reassuring!Blush. Think I may be able to do it without sedation, even though I'm quite claustrophobic.

Lireal
I didn't want to mention my fears of the MRI to you. But now I can !

It was in 2003, and it was only my knee, so my head was not in it. but could see the long narrow tunnel, and knew I would never be able to have a brain scan if my head was at the closed end - I would feel as if I could not breathe and become hysterical. So are the new ones open at both ends as well as being wider? As it is your heart to be scanned, surely you will not go in head first anyway?

You still have the results of your stress test and Thyroid blood test to come. Or have you had the blood test results already and they are OK?

digerd · 19/06/2013 21:13

Just googled the new MRI scans - WOW. No problem with those roomy and airy machines. Smile

lirael · 19/06/2013 21:56

I know! I had the same panic - can't bear being closed in. Yes, they are open at both ends thank goodness. Thyroid tests will be back on Friday. My GP thinks that they will wait for the results of all the tests and then look at them together. Have had an attack of palpitations tonight - but they do seem to come on after eating rich food (fish pie with lots of cheese - probably not best meal for prospective heart patient Blush)

Morning Lirael!

I went to bed early last night as was shattered with the heat and did 2 hours dancing in the morning - my legs were 'killing me'.
I don't know what time you ate last night, but I find it best if I eat 3 hours before going to bed. It may not have been the 'what' you ate but more the 'amount of food' Grin.

lirael · 20/06/2013 08:13

Yes the amount may have been the problem Grin. Usually eat around 6 with the family, so well before bed time. But do suffer from heartburn/indigestion at times and have to watch fatty foods, so was probably the cheese. Took me ages to get to sleep - so humid! But feel fine this morning. Horrible day here - grey and muggy.

Our's turned out sunny and the air was fresh at 8.45 when I took dog out for a 30 minute walk. But now feeling really tired again, despite a good night's sleep and hungry. So a banana and cafe Latte should buck me upSmile. Just noticed sky has hazed over now.
Waiting for the expected thunderstorm

lirael · 20/06/2013 15:54

Yes same here - weather feels as if it's holding its breath

OP posts:
digerd · 20/06/2013 18:01

Well, I had a siesta from 2-3, and when I woke up to take dog for another walk, found it had rained. It apparently poured down for 45 minutes. The mist/steam was rising from the ground.

Just taking her out for her last walk , but it has been only 21 this afternoon-was 27 yesterday- so much cooler.
