That's it really. I have a 2 tone mole on my back, I've had it years but all the focus in the news is worrying me so I've made an appointment to have it checked. I'm scared to look at it as I'm convincing myself it is getting bigger (even though DH says it hasn't changed. Getting myself into a bit of a state, lying awake at night worrying. Are they sometimes ok?

I had a worrying one on my back many years ago, it had a sort of halo ring to it. I had it removed and they took a good margin round it, needed several stitches. The results were normal, but i was advised to stay out of the sun as i have alot of moles.

You are doing the right thing in getting it checked.

I won't tell you not to worry, because if you are like me you will!!!

I have had loads checked, one removed but it turned out to be a harmless mole. Honestly don't get in a state about it. The mole hasn't changed, isn't itchy, isn't bleeding...it's two tone so right to get it checked but it's not ringing all the alarm bells.

You will be convinced it's bigger because you are focusing on it.

The GP will probably refer you to a dermatologist but don't worry this is standard procedure.

When you see the dermatologist they will look through a special magnifier and they can tell loads just from that.

When you are there, get all your other moles looked at for peace of mind.

Try not to worry. You asked if they are sometimes OK...I would say most are OK but always best to check.

I've had two removed, one two-tone number that seemed to be getting bigger and another (years later) which was bleeding. Both benign.

I had one that started to flake off and scab over, I noticed it Christmas Eve and spent a lot of Christmas worrying about it.

My GP was lovely and reassured me that it was probably nothing, he even showed me some pictures of melanoma so that I could see mine didn't really look like it.

I had an appointment and the dermatology dept anyway, just to make sure.

Turns out it wasn't even a mole but a non viral kind of wart very common, nothing to worry about and they removed it anyway.
