Breathlessness in my 9 month old - is this normal?

Went for my DS's 9 month check on Friday and the Dr found a heart murmer. He said to go back in a few weeks to see if it is just a temporary thing caused by an infection and if not I'll be referred to a pediatric cardiologist.

Over the weekend I've obviously been worried about it and have realised that he does get out of breath alot of the time. E.g. if he crawls (commando style) for say 6 foot he would be breathless. Is this normal? He never goes blue or really red in the face or anything but I've realised he spends a lot of time panting.

I'm in major panic mode now thinking he's going to keel over (which i know is silly as he's always been like this) and I can't talk to the Dr until tomorrow.

Hiya crazychilledmummy, just read this post and i hope your little boy is ok, i just thought i would say my mum went through this with me, i was diagnosed with a heart murmer when i was 1 and although i wasnt a fat baby i was very chunky and so was breathless alot too, although this got better once i was walking and running my excess chubinness off Smile
Im now 27 and i have never had anything more then the occasional ECG to check my heart every couple of years! I do know of a few people with a heart murmer and some people get a bit breathless with it (i still do but only very slighlty) and some people dont at all, i wouldnt worry too much hun, im sure your ds is absolutley fine in every way!

hi everyone, he seems fine and has just learnt to clamber up on the landing of the stairs so another stairgate is in order ! The Dr said the appt would take three weeks to come through and the appt date would prob be 6 weeks away so nothing yet. Geekgrrl, thats made me feel so much better, been feeling very down thinking am I cut out to be a mum, what if I make the wrong decisions as am on my own... Just basically feeling sorry for myself I suppose, prompted by coming downstairs and finding DS chewing the firegrate with a nice orange rustmark all round his mouth and wondering whether he'll end up poisoned before getting heartfailure !!!
