hysteroscopy and ttc

I'm seeing my GP Friday about a hysteroscopy referral. I don't know as yet if she's going to tell me she does't think I need it or what but I'm due to ovulate tomorrow and not sure if I should leave this cycle out ttc.
I've had six miscarriages, took a year to get pregnant with my first and have been trying for the past seven months since my last miscarriage with no joy. I bleed on and off every cycle, they're incredibly painful and heavy. I also get pain during and after intercourse. My GP checked me for infection a few weeks ago and that was clear. I have polyps and they're getting bigger and I'd really like them removed.
Anyone had any experience of a hysteroscopy?

I was so sorry to read about your multiple miscarriages; have you not been referred to a specialist miscarriage investigations unit?. The Miscarriage Association may be able to provide you with more support as and when you need it, they have a website too.

I would ask the GP for a referral to a gynae asap; you certainly need further evaluation from such a person. This type of problem too is well outside a GPs remit. Also endo if it is there is not likely to be diagnosed by a GP; it is usually diagnosed through a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy.

When I read your description of your current symptoms I immediately thought of endometriosis. This can cause heavy and painful periods to arise; also pain during and after intercourse is a classic indicator of endometriosis as well. It is very much underdiagnosed and GPs do not always think of endo.

If you are not already doing so, I would keep a daily pain and symptom diary to show the gynae.

www.endo.org.uk is a helpful website.

Would not delay investigations, you need to know why you are in such pain.

Also self predicting date of ovulation is fraught with difficulty and it is all too easy to get that date wrong. It is also possible to have periods without ovulating.

You will need to be persistent in order to get answers.

I have been keeping a diary since my last loss. I just never get past the GP and she's not really interested. I've been trying to get a referral to a RMC for three years and finally got an appointment last year but I was six weeks pregnant so they wouldn't see me.
I'm stuck in a rut. Time is ticking by and I'm not getting any younger. We keep trying and it could be that the next cycle will be the cycle I get pregnant again and then I won't be able to have any internal investigations then. Arrrgggghhhh.

If your GP is that unhelpful I would change GP practice.

I've had a hysteroscopy recently as I had a uterine polyp. They will test your polyp for endo once it's been removed.

That's not an option right now Meerkat, this is the only surgery to serve all of the surrounding villages...more than likely one of the reasons it's too overstretched and I can never get an appointment. I'm moving in a couple of months though and the lady we're buying from said the surgery there is really great and you get an appointment the same day! Really hope it's as good as she says.
That's good to know GW297. I've had a colposcopy in the past. Is a hysteroscopy more painful than that? The NHS site made it seem like a breeze but other sites not so much. If my GP won't go for it then I will have to save up and pay myself. I know something is wrong and have to find out before my time is up and I don't have the option of being pregnant again. My Mum and Aunt both had fibroids and my Aunt is anemic from her heavy periods. My Mum had to have an early hysterectomy. My Aunt had three miscarriages and my Mum nearly lost all three of us, was hospitalised with me and my Sister and my brother was only given 24 hours to live when he was born with complications, he's nearly 30 now but there must be a link.

I've had a colposcopy recently too. I would ask for it to be done under local anaesthetic if possible if I were you as I had a minimal surgery (or something!) specialist consultant gynaecologist do mind without so I was awake and aware the whole time!

So the GP said the large lump I could feel down there is a very large cervical ectropion. She's sending me for a colposcopy with the hope they will remove it. I'm due to ovulate tomorrow but I think despite my desperate need for a baby I should hold off until after the colposcopy. Probably be another three weeks before I get it. If they remove it is that a stay in op or will I be able to go home? Any experience?

Does anyone know how long after ectropion removal you can start trying again?
