Surely I shouldn't see my doc about thrush??

Morning all!
I have a rather suddenly itchy/prickly fanjo and reckon it's thrush, but have never had it before. Looking on the NHS website to check symptoms etc, it says to visit your GP if its the first occurrence - surely not??
I thought I could just pop down to the chemist for something to treat it?
I really don't want to waste the GPs time over something minor - what do you reckon?

(I'm not 100% sure it's thrush, but can't think what else it would be. Just finished bfing after 2 years, had an instant period, and tried a Mooncup for the first time. It's been a few days now, really starting to get unbearable!)

I've got the same symptoms but me being stupid had unprotected sex with a new partner at the weekend so it could be something else but I really hope it's thrush! I'm in at the docs later. I would make an appointment just in case!

Aha! Thanks for replying, I just didn't think it was something worth seeing the doc abut iyswim? I hate getting that look of "Really, you made an appointment for this?"

I haven't had sex for a loooong time so can at least rule that out, but fingers crossed for you that it is 'just' thrush!

Go the the GP. I had a couple of weeks of hell treating thrush when I actually had a bacterial skin infection (not STI) - I needed antibiotics.

I have had thrush before and still thought it was that for the first few days.

In addition how long since you used the mooncup? could it be an allergic reaction?

You are not wasting the GPs time, the advice is to visit

Go to the GP. If you've not had thrush before you can't be totally sure that's what it is.

No I'd just get a Canesten combi pack and go to the GP if it didn't clear. Doc Martin will tell you that recurrent thrush should be investigated - I think the episode in question it was something to do with diabetes - but I agree that for a one off Boots should be fine.

I would get the stuff from the chemist and go and see the doctor if it does not work

I have had the bacterial version of vaginitis, which the doctor treated as I was post surgery, had thrush which I treated myself, then more vaginitis which I could not work out and turned out to be lack of hormones. Doctor brilliant, but worth ruling the thrush out first as it is quick and easy.

Oh dither dither... I might give it a few more days before seeing the doc.
Checked earlier and am a bit swollen too.
Have to go to the chemist this afternoon anyway so might pick their brains.

I stopped using the Mooncup middle of last week, and have been itchy for quite a few days. It's medical grade silicone tho, didn't realise I could have a reaction to that. Bum.

I only mention it because I had an allergic reaction to one of those pelvic floor training things Blush
