Chicken pox - vaccine for me and/or DD?

My DS (21m) has chicken pox. Just told my mum today and she said she wasn't sure if I'd ever had the disease :( (News to me!) I've heard it's pretty nasty when grownups get it. He is at the pustule stage now, is it possible for me to get vaccinated or is it too late? Should I consider it later if I don't succumb now?

I'm also wondering about my DD (age 5). She also has never had it (AFAIK), and I know it gets more severe as you get older. If she doesn't get chicken pox now from him, should I consider getting her done now, or soon?

Any advice appreciated :)

your dd may still get it after being exposed to your ds. There is a 10-21 day incubation period though so it could be a wee while before you find out if she has it. It was about 15 days between my dd having it and ds coming out in spots.

I dont know about the vaccine for you as none of us have had the chickenpox vaccine.

from googling, the vaccine may help if given within 3 days of exposure to chickenpox. When did his spots start appearing?

Thanks ilove! ah, up to 21 days is a looong time. His spots started appearing on Friday, so maybe cutting it a bit fine? And he had a fever on Sun/Mon/Tues. I wonder too if the GP would ask for a blood test before the vaccination?

Going to be a bit on edge over the next fortnight...!

The chicken pox vaccine isn't available on the NHS, so you may have a problem getting a GP to test for antibodies in advance - worth asking though.

The vaccine is 2 shots and cost £60 a shot when I did DD's first one (2nd shot is done up to 3 years later).
